Bravo’s New Reality Show, “Tabloid Wars” Premieres June 24

Set in the newsroom of the New York Daily News, “Tabloid Wars” is Bravo’s new reality darling. Each of the 6 hour-long episodes take the viewer inside the chaos of staying on top of late-breaking news, from Britney to bombings. The show follows a handful of journalists, shot surveillance-style, and edited into a Law and Order-esque procedural drama. President of Bravo, Lauren Zalaznick states, “This unprecedented series goes beyond entertainment in many ways and imparts a truly educational and unique glimpse at the inner workings of a competitive leading daily newspaper.” Educational? This is reality TV- and “The Littlest Groom” was an anthropological study.

The show stars Morgan Spurlock, the guy from Super Size Me, (3rd highest grossing documentary of all time) that follows the lives of people for—you guessed it—30 days.
The August 2nd show pairs a guy named Frank and a family of seven in a one-bedroom apartment in Los Angeles. Here’s the twist, Frank is part of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps, the anti-illegal immigration group and the family is in the country illegally from Mexico. A hot topic, yes. A hot show, yes. The Hills Continues to Redefine “Reality” Television
Posted by Auburn Scallon Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, The Hills,
Fans of Laguna Beach will fall instantly for another glimpse into the ridiculously pampered lives of Southern California teens. In its debut episode, a Teen Vogue staffer begins his phone call to Lauren “LC” Conrad by listing all of the reasons why she’s not ready for an internship position, before throwing caution to the wind and offering it to her anyway (what magazine would turn away this kind of free publicity?!). This spin-off promises months of wishing you were born wealthy and beautiful while you watch as kids who have been given everything struggle to take orders.
We can surely count on her roommate Heidi, whose goal in school is to become a “fun, PR, party-girl”, fellow intern Whitney, and gorgeous new neighbor Audrina, to incite drama while good-natured LC struggles to learn how to stand up for herself. Don’t count on the return of womanizing ex-boyfriend and fellow LB alum Jason to make this any easier.

Live With Regis and Kelly: Paris Hilton Interview
Posted by Kristen DeLeon Categories: Daytime, Prime Time, Reality, Talk Shows, FOX, Talent,
Just this morning on “Live With Regis and Kelly” Paris Hilton was interviewed as a guest on the show. Paris spoke about her relationship with Nicole Richie and how the new season of “The Simple Life” has been changed from the previous seasons, such as the fact that Nicole and Paris are rarely in any of the same scenes together. She told Regis and Kelly that during the new season of the show she and Nicole would be acting as housewives in several different families and they would have to try and tackle all of the things the real wife does throughout a normal day. In one episode Paris and Nicole actually needed to wear pregnancy suits because the wife they were replacing was pregnant. During the interview, Paris told Regis and Kelly that she was also a singer. She claimed that she has always shown an interest in music and she will be putting out a CD that she has been working on for the past year.

The Real Life Desperate Housewives?
Posted by Eric Chaloux Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Desperate Housewives,
It’s a show that is nothing like it’s name…Tuesday Night Book Club airs Tuesday on CBS. Right off the top you’ve got to figure out that it’s not about books. I don’t think that would bring in the big numbers CBS is hoping for with this summer series. It’s a one-hour show that follows the lives of seven “real” women as they deal with life in Scottsdale, Arizona. Well, as real as it can get with a camera crew following you around 24/7. It’s kind of a Desperate Housewives with a reality show twist. We’ll have to watch and see who turns out to be the real Susan or Bree.

Food Network Caters Your Wedding

Food Network should be getting really excited about their new special, Food Network Caters Your Wedding. This show chooses one couple out of hundreds of contestants and helps them with their wedding by catering the entire thing. Even more exciting, the lucky pair becomes judges of a wedding cake competition given in their honor. The cake they choose to be the winner will be created for their very own reception. The couple may know a lot about food, but they couldn’t possibly make all of these decisions themselves. Food Network Stars come in at this point to aid the couple in making the best choice for food and wine. Giada de Laurentis and Bobby Flay helped out in this past episode making the Las Vegas wedding a complete success.

Project Catwalk, the UK version of Project Runway has a new hostess- Ozzy’s little girl, Kelly Osbourne. Squeezing out former host Liz Hurley, (reportedly for being “too wooden”- who are these visionaries, and will they save us from Katie Joel?) Kelly brings her…wacky sense of fashion to the runway. Osbourne says she’s excited at “the chance to do a show that features two of my favorite loves- TV and fashion is a dream come true. What more could a girl want?”
Runway is brilliant, so I can only imagine Catwalk is just as juicy. However, hosting a reality show takes a little more than just having a famous relative (see rant on Katie Joel above), so let’s hope Kelly throws an f-bomb at any ragged seams- she’ll show those gauchos who’s boss!

What happens when there are no more fresh ideas for reality programs? Is it time to throw in the reality towel? Never fear – cats are here! Access Hollywood reports that the next reality show to hit the airwaves will feature 10 cats living in a New York house. Don’t panic – this is part of Meow Mix’s latest ad campaign, being broadcast in three-minute segments on Animal Planet, starting June 16th. The cats were selected from animal shelters, so the folks at Meow Mix hope to bring attention to pet adoptions (as well as sell more cat food, of course).
Now for the fun part. Rather than observing the cats milling around for three minutes, each week will feature a competition for the furry houseguests. Viewers vote online for their favorite and the cat with the lowest vote leaves the house… no losers in this game though. Each week, the evicted cat will move to a permanent home and get a year’s supply of Meow Mix.
The grand prize for one lucky cat is a corporate job with Meow Mix. According to the Meow Mix site, the winner will be named Feline Vice President of Research and Development, responsible for taste testing a variety of Meow Mix products.

Vivica A. Fox to Dance With the Stars
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Dancing With The Stars, Talent,
Rumors have been circulating for months about the hit show’s next lineup—and now at least one star has been announced. Actress Vivica A. Fox has confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that she will be strutting her stuff for Dancing with the Stars. The actress, who will start practicing her moves at the end of July, is quite familiar with what it takes to physically prepare for a role. She proved she was in fine shape when she starred in the popular action flick Kill Bill. Of course, her choreography will now consist of twirling with a male partner as opposed to fighting a female adversary. Other stars rumored for next year’s show include Mario Lopez and Harry Hamlin (Lisa Rinna’s husband). ABC has yet to confirm any of the performer details.

Trump & Hasbro Plan Monopoly Reality Series
Posted by Rachel Langley Categories: Reality, Apprentice, The - Donald, News,
It seems Trump’s “monopoly” on half the city of Manhattan and his new family life are not enough to keep the Donald busy. He’s going after board games next. Trump will be working with Hasbro to bring the treasured classic “Monopoly” into the world of reality television. Obviously not intimidated by his failed “Martha The Apprentice” effort (and fueled by his own show’s continual success), Trump is working with producer R.J. Cutler and Hasbro to transform the game into a sellable reality show. It’s reported they will be looking to pitch the concept to four major networks in the coming weeks. All involved are keeping details of the show under wraps, but Variety said the premise involves contestants improving properties as a means of increasing their net worth. Hmmm…not sure the Donald needed to hijack the classic board game in order to create that concept.
