On Gear Live: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review

Rock Star: Supernova Apparently, there is an existing Southern California band that goes by the name of Supernova who have been around since the late 1980s. The band is fighting to keep the name and has asked a federal judge for an injunction against the band that Rock Star: Supernova is creating with its talent contest on ABC. Just to show that the existing Supernova (confused yet?) are no schlubs, they have performed on the Warped Tour and have a song on the Clerks soundtrack. The band has tried to reach a settlement with the CBS series’ bandmates and producer Mark Burnett Productions, but since there have been no agreements reached, the band filed the injunction request to further prevent the CBS Supernova from recording or performing with that band name. And the war wages on—the plaintiffs’ attorney said they were left with no options but to seek the injunction, while Burnett’s camp says Mark Burnett Productions “has the full legal right to use the name Supernova.”

Tucker CarlsonI managed to escape getting hooked entirely on Dancing With the Stars last season, but did watch the finale for some reason and found it moderately entertaining. The next round of celebrities for the third season of Dancing With the Stars has been announced, so maybe I’ll be giving the show another look. So, we have Tucker Carlson of MSNBC (see pic, right), talk-show host Jerry Springer, Vivica A. Fox, Harry Hamlin (you may remember his better half in the competition last season), Joe Lawrence (sans the ‘y’ so he’s all grown up now), Mario Lopez, singers Sara Evans and Willa Ford, Monique Coleman (of High School Musical), Shanna Moakler, and football star Emmitt Smith.

If you’re unfamiliar with the show, there are 11 pairs competing for some lame-o dance trophy and bragging rights. As with these types of shows, the celebrity label is often used liberally, but each semi-famous person is paired with a professional dance partner. Both judges scores and viewer votes are combined to determine one couple to eliminate each week. Look for Dancing With the Stars this fall—premiering on September 12th on ABC.

The Barkers The stars of Meet the Barkers, drummer Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler, are now on their way to Splitsville.  Despite the birth of their daughter just seven months ago, Travis filed for divorce this week from the former Miss USA winner.  I smell a cheater out there somewhere.  After a high-profile romance with Oscar de la Hoya, Moakler married the Blink-182 drummer on Halloween in 2004.  Shanna has one child with the boxer and two with Barker.

For those who have lost track, this would be the third MTV-related couple to go down the tubes in the past year—- the first two being Jess/Nick and Carmen/Dave.  Nick Lachey better take note.  If his current fling with Vanessa Minnillo falls apart, he could be the first and fourth MTV relationship to fall apart in the year.

.Description  For those who were just as shocked as I was to see Angela Keslar eke out a win on this week’s episode of Project Runway, you can now see the winning design up close.  The designer, who had narrowly escaped elimination the past few weeks, managed to create a tasteful design sans rosettes for the INC label.  The outfit, produced with help from competitors Laura Bennett and Michael Knight, was showcased in a Macy’s store window at the end of the episode.  Now, the design is available for purchase.

The three-piece outfit consists of a jacket ($129), long-sleeved tee ($39) and trousers ($89).  That’s $257.  And as we all know—Angela only paid $100 to make it.

Pussycat DollsI couldn’t stand that Pussycat Dolls song—“Don’t Cha” (...wish your girlfriend was hot like me)—then it showed up on a beer commercial. And now, with the upcoming talent show that’s looking to recruit a new “Doll,” I can only imagine the promos for the show will have me humming the tune again.

The CW network ordered eight episodes of the talent competition The Search for the Next Pussycat Doll. The winner will get to be part of the girl group. Think Rock Star, only sexier. Dawn Ostroff, CW’s president of entertainment says, “At its core, this show goes beyond just finding a new Pussycat Doll; it’s about female empowerment, self-discovery and personal transformation.” Um, right. I’m sure that’s what all of the guys tuning in to watch are thinking about—empowerment and self-discovery. The show comes to you by Charlie’s Angels director McG and America’s Next Top Model producer Ken Mok, as well as Interscope’s Jimmy Iovine. Says McG, “I’m most interested in the personal drama, about the [candidates] leaving their relationships or trust issues with their parents. It’s all about the real-life stuff that lies within.” Am I the only one who finds that laughable?

The girls will live together (naturally, for the personal drama) and perform weekly challenges—whittling down the talent until one kitty cat remains.

MTV logoA milestone for MTV—25 years (man, don’t I feel old?)! You would think MTV would pull out all the stops with an all-star celebration, a walk down memory lane, and oh-so-much-more. Looks like that’s not the case however, as MTV will be quietly celebrating their 25th. For those of us old enough to remember the pioneering moment when MTV splashed in our face, it’s a bit sad to think they aren’t embracing their age. MTV premiered on August 1st, 1981 at midnight, with the first video by The Buggles’ (appropriately called “Video Killed the Radio Star”). Ah, I long for the good ‘ole days, when they actually played music videos!

Re-live some of the great moments of MTV at USA Today. Hey MTV—you don’t look a day over 20 to me!

Girls Next DoorI admit it. I watch it—not faithfully, mind you—but I have seen more than my fair share of The Girls Next Door on E! Seems I’m not the only one to tune in because E! renewed the reality show for a second season. The series follows Girls Holly Madison, Kendra Wilkinson and Bridget Marquardt, who all are Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends and live at the Playboy Mansion. My personal viewership is pure curiousity. I just can’t wrap my head around the fact that three women are shacking up with Hefner. But, I suppose, it is the Playboy Mansion and he is a millionaire, so their “attraction” to him is likely based on access to the finer things in life. E!‘s executive producer for the series, Brent Zacky says, “It’s surprising, considering what many of the skeptics said when it first aired. I think a major reason for its success is that the viewers love the girls.” Well, I wouldn’t go that far, but I’m only speaking for myself. At any rate, I’m sure I’ll be tuning in again at some point during season 2—the new season premieres on Sunday night.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the network will make weekly episodes of The Girls Next Door, The Soup, Dr. 90210 and The Simple Life: ‘Til Death Do Us Part available the day after they have broadcast. Each episode will cost $1.99. Ted Harbert, E! Entertainment president and CEO says the move reinforces their “E! ABC Don’t be fooled – it’s not a sing-off among our favorite cast members of The Office, but rather the latest reality show concept. I’ve said it before, and I guess I’m going to keep saying it… a reality show can be created about virtually anything. The latest reality concept, called The Singing Office, asks employees of two different companies to audition on the spot. CBS ordered the pilot, so we’ll see how well this baby flies. Reminiscent of American Idol, the best five singers “go to Hollywood” and are vocally trained and assisted by a choreographer to perform their song for a studio audience. The audience chooses the better of the two offices, and the team wins a cash prize. If the show takes off, the season would end with the final winners of each episode competing for the grand prize. The show’s producer, Laurie Girion says, “Everybody knows people at their office who stand up at the Christmas party and sing karaoke. This is a show for these people. We’re not looking for the next pop star, we are celebrating the real people who have picked up a hairbrush and have sung in front of a mirror.”

Chaka KhanPeople just love to see celebrities boxing, dancing, ice skating…and now, singing. Fox TV has announced the professional songbirds that will be paired with celebrities on the new show Celebrity Duets. The big names include: Chaka Khan, Clint Black, Michael Bolton, Cyndi Lauper, Smokey Robinson, Dionne Warwick, Brian McKnight, Macy Gray, Patti LaBelle, Kenny Loggins, Richard Marx, Randy Travis, and Aaron Neville. The series premieres with a two-hour show on August 29th, and will follow the model of American Idol, allowing judges and viewers to cast their votes for elimination. The b-list

celebrities have not yet been announced, but composer David Foster will be one of the judges. Well, it seems to have a bit more potential than the celebrity skating debacle. I mean, Kenny Loggins and Richard Marx? Gold, baby.
