David Schwimmer, who played Ross on Friends, is making good money without having to read any lines. Schwimmer’s publicist announced Friday that the actor was awarded $400,000 in a defamation suit. It was brought against a former celebrity fundraiser who told a tabloid newspaper that Schwimmer requested two Rolex watches in exchange for appearing at an event. E! News reports that the former Friends star said fundraiser Aaron Tonken was “a scheming pathological liar” and accused him of being “bent on castigating Schwimmer and other celebrities by concocting bogus stories…in an effort to justify [his] own deceit and lies.”
Since Friends ended, Schwimmer has been appearing in Neil LaBute’s Some Girls in London. He came back state-side recently and opened on Broadway in The Caine Mutiny Court Martial. And yes, that was Schwimmer’s voice in the 2005 movie Madagascar where he played Melman, a giraffe.

Familar Face Joins NBC’s Law & Order
Posted by Eric Chaloux Categories: Prime Time, CBS, NBC, Talent, News,
Die on one show, come to life on a different show, different network. Not a bad gig. That’s the real life story of Alana De La Garza these days. De La Garza will be the new Assistant District Attorney on NBC’s Law & Order. She’ll take the place of Annie Parisse, whose character A.D.A. Alexandra Borgia was killed off in the series’ 16th-season finale last month. De La Garza played Eric Delko’s (Adam Rodriguez) sister, Marisol, on CSI: Miami but was gunned down by drug dealers on the two-part season finale. We’ve lost track of how many sidekick’s Jack McCoy has had on Law & Order . Can you name them all?

30 Rock Clip Rocks

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, Saturday Night Live, Talent, Gossip, Rumors,
If you haven’t checked out any of the NBC First Look clips on the NBC site, take a look at “30 Rock.” The clip has a number of laugh-out-loud moments, and it looks like it will be one you won’t want to miss come Fall. Tina Fey stars with fellow SNL alums Tracy Morgan and Rachel Dratch, with comedy golden boy Alec Baldwin (truly, this guy is good – as any of his SNL appearances prove). The strong cast and solid writing by Fey seem a lock for a sharp new comedy. Now, what about Dratch and Fey’s absence from SNL? Conflicting rumors either say Fey is completely done with SNL – or that she will at least continue to fill the seat for Weekend Update. Time will tell…

Scrubs Fans: Get Your Fix With Zach Braff’s New Blog

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, NBC, Scrubs, Talent, Internet,
It’s rumored that the new season of Scrubs will once again begin mid-season – meaning we’ll have to wait way too long to see what J.D., Elliot, Carla, Turk, Dr. Cox and the rest of the gang at Sacred Heart are up to. Personally speaking, it’s going to be pure agony waiting for one of the funniest shows around to return to the lineup.
In the meantime, check out Zach Braff’s new website. Previously, he had been posting a blog at the Garden State movie site, but has now taken over his own domain on what should be a pretty promising site. Currently, just a welcome blog, video post, and a sneak peek of his new film “The Last Kiss,” but it should give you Scrubs fans something to gnaw on for awhile anyway. Zach also shares some of his favorite music and has a section for shameless plugs. Check it out.

Tom Cruise Wins Forbes Magazine’s List
Posted by Eric Chaloux Categories: Music, ABC, FOX, NBC, American Idol, Oprah Winfrey Show, Talent, The Sopranos, News,
The most powerful celebrity according to Forbes Magazine’s Celebrity 100 is Tom Cruise. If that wasn’t a downer…I don’t know what else is. To make the list Forbes looks at a celebrity’s earnings and media appearances over the last 12 months, traditionally June to June.
New members of the Celebrity 100 club this year include the cast of The Sopranos in the ninth spot. U2 was the highest-paid music group on the list. Jerry Seinfeld was the highest-paid comedian, but only the 28th most powerful celebrity. Meanwhile, American Idol stars Simon Cowell (29th) and Ryan Seacrest (88th) made their debuts on the Celebrity 100. Simon’s earnings were put at $43 million, Seacrest’s at $12 million. And yes, the stars of The Simple Life made the list as Paris Hilton came in at 56th and Nicole Richie snuck in at 95th. Paris’ dog didn’t make the cut. The 100th spot goes to ABC’s star of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Ty Pennington.
He’s a look at Forbes Magazine Top 10 List:
- Tom Cruise, $67 million
- The Rolling Stones, $90 million
- Oprah Winfrey, $225 million
- U2, $110 million
- Tiger Woods, $90 million
- Steven Spielberg, $332 million
- Howard Stern, $302 million
- 50 Cent, $41 million
- Cast of The Sopranos, $52 million
- Dan Brown, $88 million

Treasure Hunters: Let the Race…er…Hunt Begin

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Reality, NBC,
If Treasure Hunters looks familiar, it may be because it’s a combination of The Amazing Race, The Da Vinci Code, and National Treasure. The two-hour season premiere of Treasure Hunters will air Sunday on NBC at 8 PM and so far, the buzz is that it will be an entertaining ride among the otherwise blah summer offerings. No telling yet if host Laird Macintosh (no, I’m not making that up) will be as credible a reality host as, say, our beloved Phil Keoghan from Race, but it’s worth a look. Scenic locations, the hunt for clues, physical challenges and abundant product placements all sound promising.

An Open Letter To Britney Spears

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Reality, Specials, NBC, Editorial, Gossip,
Dear Britney:
I’ve seen all the bad press you’ve been receiving lately and I know that it has really gotten to you. Access Hollywood has been promoting your upcoming interview with Matt Lauer all week. I often feel bad that I pay US Weekly good money to publish all those bad stories about you—but for some reason I just can’t tear my eyes away from all your photos. Those tear-stained eyes…your poor son looking helpless.
I know—it must be hard to live in the limelight…photographers waiting everywhere hoping that you will make a mistake. I understand it must be horrible to live in such a fishbowl.
Maybe we’re all wrong about K-Fed. Maybe he is a better father than he seems. Shar Jackson still seems to say good things about him…even if he did leave her for you.
But no matter what you have to say about your mothering…about K-Fed…about the state of your marriage. Do you want to know my main problem about you?
YOU LOOK LIKE CRAP.
I hate it when people with good money can’t clean their acts up—emotionally OR physically.
Granted—I have only seen clips from your upcoming interview, but I feel like I can comfortably say this: FIRE YOUR PR AGENT (If they haven’t already quit).
PR 101: If you want people to respect you—- LOOK RESPECTABLE. I have no idea who let you go on national TV looking that…especially when the whole point of the interview was to set your record straight. America—I’m not white-trash…even though I may dress like it.
Your television interview has NOT EVEN AIRED YET—but I can tell you right now, you are going to win very few people over.
There is no reason your hair should lack a good conditioner. Your boobs should not be falling out of your top. You should not be wearing short denim skirts that practically expose your rear.
I hope you know that they do make good maternity clothes now….especially for those who can afford it. EVEN TARGET HAS BETTER MATERNITY CLOTHES THAN WHAT YOU ARE WEARING.
You may want people just to leave you alone—BUT YOU MAKE IT TOO EASY FOR THEM TO KEEP LOOKING. You are a train wreck we can’t pull our eyes from—whether you are walking barefoot into a gas station bathroom or nearly dropping your baby.
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not a prude. There is a time and a place for revealing tops and short skirts— and a sit-down interview on primetime television is not it.
Stop blaming everyone at home for perceiving you wrong. GOOD PR STARTS AT HOME. When you look good on the outside, you start to feel better on the inside.
Sincerely,
V
P.S. Just in case you were wondering: Thursday night @ 9pm on NBC—I’m so all over it!!!

Last Comic Standing Finalists Selected

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, Reality, NBC,
Last night, part two of the semi-final competition heated up on Last Comic Standing as the contestants battled it out for the five remaining spots. In part one of the episode, which aired last week, five finalists had been selected. The semi-finals consisted of 40 comics who each performed a 3-minute set for an audience and three judges – Kathy Griffin, Tim Meadows and Garry Marshall.
Last night’s show promised a twist…who doesn’t love a good twist? After the final 5 finalists were selected, host Anthony Clark (anyone else missing Jay Mohr?) announced that 2 additional people would be joining the finals as well. OK, kind of fizzled as a twist, but it did make things slightly more interesting.
The final 12 comics will live aboard the Queen Mary and continue to compete over the weeks for the coveted Last Standing prize. The finalists are: Chris Porter, April Macie, Joey Gay, Roz, Josh Blue, Gabriel Iglesias, Bill Dwyer, Michele Balan, Stella, Ty Barnette, Kristin Key, and Rebecca Corry.
If you visit NBC.com, you can select one of five contestants that didn’t make it to the finals to join the house. So, if one of your favorites didn’t get through, you have some voting power. The winners of the online voting will compete and the viewers will choose two comics to return to a later episode of Last Comic.

Former “Friend” Lisa Kudrow has landed a development deal with NBC, which gives the network first dibs on any projects by Kudrow and her production partner Dan Bucatinsky. Kudrow and Bucatinsky are the masterminds behind It or Isn’t It Entertainment, a production company responsible for shows such as “The Comeback” (HBO), “All In” (NBC), and “Beck and Call” (UPN). Currently, the duo is busy adapting Jancee Dunn’s book “But Enough About Me” for television, under the new NBC deal.
But it’s not all about NBC for It or Isn’t It Entertainment. The two have partnered with Magical Elves Productions (“Project Runway”) to produce an unscripted sketch comedy based on Kudrow and Bucatinsky’s prior experiences in the genre.
