On Gear Live: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review

Although Wednesdays typically favor either CBS or FOX, a heated ballroom competition was last night’s top draw. Despite a 17% drop in viewers from last November’s finale, DWTS did just enough to help ABC win both categories yesterday.

MONDAY (11/24)
  • Dancing with the Stars (ABC, 8pm):  After ten weeks, it all ends tonight. Sadly, I can’t even remember the names of the first two eliminated.
  • Samantha Who? (ABC, 9:30):  “Sam invites boyfriend Owen (James Tupper) for dinner to meet her parents, but Owen and Howard don’t hit it off.” Seems Howard doesn’t approve of his relationship with Anne Heche either.
  • Valkyrie: The Plot to Kill Hitler (History, 10pm):  “Recalling Operation Valkyrie, a failed plot devised by German officers to assassinate Adolf Hitler.” By choosing this documentary over the version, you’ll be able to save a few more bucks for Christmas.
  • The Hills (MTV, 10pm):  “Audrina confronts Lauren and Justin after rumors circulate that the two hooked up.” By “confront,” we mean Audrina has them refer to the television interviews she’s conducted on the topic.

As hard as it is for me to admit, it looks like my darling Pushing Daisies will soon be pushed out the door. Despite an Obama bump for its last outing, the show couldn’t maintain the audience. Yesterday’s episode even performed lower than the last unassisted show. CBS had a good evening though. Season high numbers for the two comedies gave the network wins in both categories last night.

Although numbers were down for all CBS shows, the Eye network still did enough to win with the viewers last night. Meanwhile, FOX - with help from Fringe and House - was #1 again in the demos.

For the 2nd Wednesday in a row, ABC benefited from non-regular programming. Last week, the Alphabet network had a special episode of DWTS. This week, the CMAs were the one to thank. Yesterday’s broadcast of the 42nd annual event gave ABC wins in both the viewers and the demos.

I just can’t wait to see what happens when American Idol finally comes around. Last night, NCIS - a show in its sixth season - had an evening to remember. The show not only saw its best demo performance in approximately a year, it had its largest audience ever. The Mark Harmon program went on to help CBS win with the the viewers while FOX was on top with the demos.

In just a few short months, the landscape on FOX will look quite a bit different. In addition to , the viewers will also see the long-awaited return of 24. (Jack Bauer has been MIA since May 2007.)

To make room for the network’s midseason additions, several programs will undergo adjustments to their current schedule. Here are a few of the programming notes:

Voters tired of political ads - and television in general - took a rest from the boob tube last night. This meant lower numbers for most programs and a disappointing season debut for Law & Order. (The show had its worst Wednesday ever.) Thanks to a rare mid-week airing of DWTS, ABC was tops with the viewers yesterday. Meanwhile, the Alphabet network was also tied with FOX in the demos.

Maybe CBS has a repeat of Fringe to thank? Whatever the reason, The Mentalist hit a season high last night with its sixth episode. The freshman series then helped out Without a Trace’s numbers. All this activity gave the the network its best Tuesday since December ‘07. Unfortunately, House‘s hot demos meant FOX still had the lead last night in the 18-49 group.

Simon Baker8pm

  • (17.1 million, 3.4/9 in 18-49) did the same as last week.
  • (13.1 million, 5.3/14) killed in the demos.
  • ‘s presentation of It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (3.4/9) had 10.4 million reminiscing.
  • (8 million, 3.1/9) packed on 700,000 more pounds.
  • (1.6/4) returned to 3.2 million.

Thanks to ABC’s smart decision to can Opportunity Knocks, the network’s first two hours saw big improvements over last week. Unfortunately, its third hour (Eli Stone) didn’t benefit from the programming change. By night’s end, CBS was the winner with the viewers while FOX was tops with the demos.

Dancing with the Stars' Toni Braxton and Alec Mazo8pm

  • (17.1 million, 3.6/10 in 18-49) lost 800,000.
  • (12.9 million, 5.5/15) had the best demos of the night.
  • A * recap show (9.3 million, 2.0/6) did 4 million better than last week’s Knocks.
  • (7.3 million, 2.9/8) was down slightly.
  • * (1.4 million, 0.6/2) was down 400,000.
