Shannen Doherty and Others to Guest Host on The View

After the loss of Meredith Viera and the “gain” of losing Star Jones Reynolds, The View will feature a series of guest hosts for the next few weeks.
Some of the upcoming guests will include American Idol finalist Katharine McPhee (July 19), and Carrie Ann Inaba of Dancing with the Stars (July 10). All My Children‘s Susan Lucci appeared yesterday, while singer-actress Brandy (of Moesha and America’s Got Talent) guest hosted today and Wednesday July 5.
Perhaps the most highly anticipated appearance - in my humble opinion only, I’m sure - is that of Shannen Doherty. Doherty, known for her starring roles in (and allegedly bitter departures from) Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed, is sheduled to guest host July 31 and August 1.
The actress, infamous as being “trouble” due to rumors of stormy relationships with cast members and a shortlived marriage to Ashley Hamilton, is unlikely to be considered as a permanent replacement though. Her new reality show Breaking Up With Shannen Doherty, in which she will help people get out of toxic relationships, premieres August 1 on Oxygen.
The View won’t be making a permanent replacement until after Rosie O’Donnell’s debut on September 5. (The show will be on a month-long hiatus before that starting August 4).
Meanwhile, no one is quite sure what Reynolds is up to. She posted details on how to contact Barbara Walters, the president of ABC Daytime, and an executive producer of The View on her website recently. However, as of this Thursday the information was down.
Debbie Matenopoulos, who was fired from The View in 1999, appeared on Fox’s Good Day LA last week and had this message for Reynolds: “It’s called ‘show business.’”

Kathy Griffin on Her Divorce: Why Do We Care?
Posted by Christina Furtado Categories: Cable, Talent, Editorial, Gossip,
So Kathy Griffin told Larry King last night that the real reason she’s divorcing her husband is that he stole $72,000 from her.
Yawn. I actually don’t really want to blog about Kathy Griffin’s love life. I want to blog about why people blog about Kathy Griffin’s love life. Because I genuinely have no idea, though I don’t mean to knock anyone who does blog about her. I get that people care; I just have no clue why they do.
Thanks to My Life on the D-List, Griffin has recently escalated her career from just kind of being around and being annoying. Nowadays, she shows up everywhere. Her show. E!‘s red carpet coverage. As guest judge on Last Comic Standing. I think she’s funny, but not in any kind of earth-shattering way, so I have to wonder: do people really care about why her husband left her? (I didn’t even know about it until today, and I read my entertainment news.) If so, why? Is it because of her show, which I admit I have not seen? Is her show even worth watching?
Basically, I would like someone to explain the appeal of this person as a gossip-worthy celebrity (not her appeal as a comic) to me, and I would like to know if it’s a genuine appeal, or something she and her PR people have manufactured. It just seems to me that, all of a sudden, she’s famous for…not much of anything.

Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey signed their divorce papers this Friday, officially ending their three-year marriage.
Simpson, 25, and Lachey, 32, were apparently so anxious to dissolve the marriage, that they asked that their marital status be bifurcated. In a bifurcation, the judge will divide two issues so that one may be ruled upon before hearing evidence on the other. In this case, that meant that their divorce could be granted prior to ruling on the division of assets. The couple - who starred in their own MTV reality series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica - have agreed to work out those details at a later date.
Since they announced their separation in November 2005, Lachey has been linked romantically to Kristin Cavallari of Laguna Beach, singer Natasha Bedingfield, designer Kim Kardashian (daughter of O.J. Simpson attorney, the late Robert Kardashian), and two former beauty queens, Elizabeth Arnold (Miss Kentucky USA, 2002) and Vanessa Minnillo (Miss Teen USA 1998).
Simpson, on the other hand, is rumored to have dated Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine, actor Jared Leto, Trace Ayala (famous merely for being a “friend of Justin Timberlake”), and Dane Cook, her co-star in the upcoming film Employee of the Month.
I guess we can assume MTV won’t be creating Divorced: Nick and Jessica anytime soon.

Rosie O’Donnell has avoided comment on the drama-filled departure of Star Jones from The View. She did coyly reply that her opinion of Star was well-known.
ABC has temporarily replaced Jones with actress Renee Elise Goldsberry, from One Life to Live. O’Donnell joins the morning talk show this fall.
The real question, however, is if Rosie, like Ellen, will suddenly remove all traces of lesbianism from her life once she is on daytime TV.

Calista Flockhart and Harrison Ford Plan To Wed
Posted by Abby Rose Dalto Categories: Gossip, Rumors,
Harrison Ford has finally agreed to marry Calista Flockhart (of Ally McBeal fame). After dating for four years, the couple are likely to exchange vows later this year.
Sources say that Flockhart, who has never been married, had to do a lot of convincing to get Harrison to agree. Having divorced his wife of 20 years - Melissa Mathison - in 1984, Ford was hesitant to jump back into marriage again.
Flockhart, 41, is also anxious to have a baby with Ford, who is 22 years her senior. The actress wants a sibling for her adopted four-year-old son, Liam. Apparently Ford has agreed to adopt a baby with Flockhart - which comes as a relief to most of us, because no one wants to see that couple breed!

Finally Britney Has Found A Look That Works For Her!
Posted by Abby Rose Dalto Categories: Editorial, Gossip,
Britney Spears has surprised everyone by appearing nude on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar (in a style similar to Demi Moore’s famous Vanity Fair cover). The fact that she has decided to bare it all was not the surprise. Truthfully, she’s revealed about as much before, thanks to the semi-risque outfits of her past concerts and music videos.
The real shocker was that she actually looked good!
With dark hair and subtle makeup, she looks like an entirely new person. The Harper’s cover shows Britney in a completely different way than we’ve come to think of her lately. Instead of a young, white trash, basketcase… Brit looks sophisticated and beautiful. One might even say she’s “glowing”.
After all she’s been through lately - doubts about her parenting skills, marital problems with husband Kevin Federline, a decrease in income, endless rumors - even Britney’s critics will be refreshed to see how relaxed and happy she seems in the cover photo.
If only she’d considered this look for her Dateline interview.

Star Jones Was Fired from The View
Posted by Christina Furtado Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Talent, Gossip,
Earlier reports that Star Jones Reynolds quit The View have now been revealed to be untrue. According to a report on People‘s website, Jones Reynolds claims she was asked not to return to her next day of work on the popular talk show, and ABC confirms this report. Apparently, the final split was the product of a period of hostility between Jones Reynolds and the show. “What you don’t know is that my contract was not renewed for the tenth season,” she states. “I feel like I was fired.” She tells People that she got the news about her contract right after the show announced that Rosie O’Donnell, who openly dislikes Jones Reynolds, would be joining the show. I’m no fan of Star’s, but that’s a pretty shabby way to treat someone whose been with your show from the beginning, even if she is pretty obnoxious. Jones Reynolds made the announcement on the show on Tuesday, which was two days earlier than planned, by breaking into a segment on air conditioning.

Brad Pitt Makes America Great?
Posted by Abby Rose Dalto Categories: Announcements, Editorial, Gossip, News, Rumors,
Newsweek recently named Brad Pitt one of “15 People Who Make America Great”, although there are some who might disagree with this honor.
Lauded for bringing much-needed publicity (and money) to impoverished African nations, the article states that Pitt and Angelina Jolie chose to have their baby in Namibia in order to lure the paparazzi to the country. However, Namibia’s National Society for Human Rights alleges that the couple had visiting journalists deported for “harassment”, contradicting their claim that they hoped to attract the media’s attention. NSHR also feels that persuading the government to shut down the border was an abuse of the couple’s power.
Newsweek also mentioned Pitt’s sponsorship of the Global Green USA architecture competition to create affordable, eco-friendly housing in New Orleans and his donation of four million dollars - earned from the sale of new baby Shiloh’s photos to People magazine – to African charities.
However, amidst all the publicity that Pitt’s “happy family” has received, few people ever mention the fact that (if you do your math) Jolie was expecting Pitt’s child before his divorce from Jennifer Aniston was finalized. Although Pitt and Aniston technically separated months before the pregnancy, many blame Jolie – and a suspected affair – for the decline of their marriage.
Many would say that Jolie is the true humanitarian force behind the couple because she has been traveling the globe - volunteering, spreading goodwill, and adopting third-world babies - long before she became romantically linked to Pitt. The article does cite her as the catalyst that caused Pitt to become so politically active, but she was otherwise absent from Newsweek’s list.
