On Gear Live: Apple’s HUGE Siri Apple Intelligence Fumble w/ John Gruber - Geared Up 205

SimpsonsAlready the longest-running television comedy, Fox is announcing that The Simpsons will be extending its reign even further.  Expect to be watching the antics of Homer and clan for another two years.  The show, 400-episodes-old this May, will soon reach an unprecedented 18th and 19th seasons.  D’oh!  The second-longest running comedy ever, The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet, only made it through its 15th.

Prison BreakAfter a 15-week hiatus, Prison Break finally returns to Fox this Monday night.  Although the show is returning to its old day, its being welcomed to an earlier time (8pm) thanks to the old veteran, 24.  When we last left the show, Michael Scofield and his fellow inmates were on the verge of rescuing his brother, Lincoln, from the electric chair.  Of course, a wrench in their plan looked to foil everything and left viewers with a nail-biting cliffhanger.  Will the prison break ever happen?  Of course, it will.  But the bigger question is—will the show be able to regain the momentum it had right after its heavily-hyped fall debut?  Out of sight usually means out of mind, but being partnered with action hit, 24, could give the CBS comedy lineup some nice competition.

Chris DaughtryThe American Idol contestants got to start off the first week of finals on a very high note.  A Stevie Wonder night?  How much bigger could it get?  Unfortunately, singing the songs of such a legend can only bring high expectations along with it.  Were the contestants up to the challenge?  And more importantly—who would sing “You Are the Sunshine of My Life”?  (My early prediction was Kevin Covais).  Let’s see if I was right…

House MDGood news for Hugh Laurie fans: the fan and critical favorite House M.D. has been renewed for a third season on FOX. Hugh Laurie plays Dr. Gregory House, a brilliant but seriously conflicted physician with a knack for both diagnoses and alienation. Surrounded by a talented cast including Robert Sean Leonard and Omar Epps, the show also boasts some of the best writing and acting on television. Always a ratings powerhouse, House M.D. broke all records last month when it scored its highest ratings ever. Newcomers can catch the repeats on the USA network. (Check your listings for local times and dates.)

We’re thrilled at this news - it’s always nice to see quality recognized.

So the Final 12 have finally been decided—and many may be shocked by those who fell by the wasteside.  TV Envy did predict the loss of Kinnick Sky and Will Makar, but we can’t say that we’re surprised about the loss of Ayla Brown and Gedeon McKinney.

Ayla’s rendition of ‘Unwritten’ was definitely questionable, but we thought that her likeable personality and basketball alter-ego would make her a fan favorite.  Based on last night’s performance alone, though, the viewers made the correct choice.  Despite some questionable notes, Melissa McGhee’s performance did surpass Ayla’s.

As for Gedeon McKinney—one can only guess that his ‘record of the world’ made a lasting impression in more ways than one.  By voting him off now, the viewers are spared 12 more weeks of his impressionist paintings.  TV Envy still thinks that Gedeon’s singing was better than Kevin Covais’, but overall it’s easier to tolerate a cute 16-year-old than a young man in an old body.

Gedeon McKinneyOnce again, the male contestants put out a better overall showing than the ladies—but only six will make it through on Thursday.  How did they individually fare? Find out after the jump. As an aside, we are glad that Paula decided to lighten up on the cleavage this evening, opting instead for a gigantic flower of some sort. Good stuff.

American Idol MandisaWith eight girls remaining and only six slots left, Tuesday night’s competition was obviously a very important one for the ladies.  Overall, the performances were a vast improvement over last week—but were they good enough to get them in the Final 12?  Once again, feel free to check out our notes and judge for yourself.

Description

Gordon Ramsay is back to terrify a new crop of novice chefs.

The reality cooking show Hell’s Kitchen will return June 12th in its normal 9pm slot. No doubt viewers are hoping for more dramatic explosions and food flinging courtesy of the hot-tempered Ramsay.

The show, in which teams of aspiring chefs compete for Ramsay’s approval—and often end up wearing what they’re cooking, courtesy of a fed-up Ramsay—will open its second season Monday, June 12. It will hold down the same 9 p.m. timeslot it had last summer.

In the first season, 27-year-old chef Michael outlasted 11 other competitors to win the competition and take a job working in one of Ramsay’s London restaurants.

The stakes are somewhat higher this year: The winner will receive the title of executive chef at a fine-dining restaurant at the soon-to-open Red Rock Casino Resort in Las Vegas. FOX also says the winner “will be eligible” to have a financial interest in the restaurant and give input on its design.

Becky American IdolThis show sure likes to find the criminals and questionably notorious, doesn’t it? The latest pop star hopeful with a secret past is Becky O’Donohue. What did Donahue do? She posed nearly naked with her twin sister in the men’s magazine Maxim.

There’s nothing like being on American Idol to help excavate a person’s past. In the case of contestant Becky O’Donohue, two-year-old photos showing her with her twin sister, Jessie, have surfaced on the Maxim magazine Web site.

The shots depict the 25-year-olds in bikinis, revealing baseball jerseys, and sitting in a sauna – clad only in towels.

The pictures were taken in 2004 for the publication’s online fantasy baseball game – and found new life when O’Donohue became an Idol contestant, Jordan Burchette, executive editor of the site, tells the Associated Press. “There’s all kind of new buzz surrounding them.”

What do you think? Should this influence fans’ votes at all? And is there such a thing as too much exposure?
