Bradley Whitford Moves From The West Wing To Studio 60
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Drama, NBC, Talent, West Wing, The,
West Wing star Bradley Whitford will join an esteemed cast, including Matthew Perry and Amanda Peet, in the new comedy Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. He’ll also reunite with Aaron Sorkin, creator of the West Wing, who heads this new show. Studio 60 is a drama/satire of a late night sketch show reminiscent of Saturday Night Live. How can the show fail with this much talent? Of course…NBC is notorious for canceling excellent shows. (Can we all have a moment of silence for Freaks and Geeks?)
Whitford will play a producer-director and recovering cocaine addict who has come back to run the sketch show he used to work for. Also joining the cast is Sarah Paulson, who plays a Christian fundamentalist, and Timothy Busfield as the control-room director.
Whitford won an Emmy in 2001 for his role as deputy chief of staff Josh on West Wing. Paulson most recently appeared in the feature Serenity and on HBO’s drama Deadwood.

Alias Returns In A Two-Hour Extravaganza
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Alias,
The beloved super-femme spy show Alias returns April 19 with a special 2-hour episode. Several regular-length episodes will air in following weeks. Fans are thrilled about the return, but disappointed in what will apparently be a shortened season.
However, it now seems that ABC has gone ahead and decided to air the last hours of one of the greatest shows on TV. That’s right - Sydney, Jack, Sloane, and the rest of the Alias gang return in April (according to our friends at SpoilerFix.com, April 19 to be exact) for a two-hour midseason special. According to the report, which started with Kristin at E! Online, the two-hour return will be followed by four more hour-long episodes and the series will come to an end with another two-hour explosion sometime in May.
What do you think? Does the show deserve its shoddy treatment simply because of lower ratings, or should the network give Alias the respect it’s earned?

The CW Network Announces Its First Pilot, Runaway
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Drama, The CW, News,
Just barely born, the CW Network has already developed its first original project, the drama Runaway. Runaway follows a family who become fugitives in order to buy more time for their wrongly-accused father.
Sex and the City creator Darren Star has sold a pilot drama to the new CW network, the broadcaster that will rise from the ashes of the WB and UPN networks.
Runaway centers on a family who, after the husband/father’s murder conviction, decide to become fugitives in the hopes that they can buy him enough time to prove his innocence.
Star and Ed Zuckerman (NBC’s Law & Order) are serving as executive producers on the project, while Chad Hodge (Fox’s Tru Calling) is writing.
With this kind of talent at the helm, it looks like Runaway may be the hit the new network needs.

Desperate Housewives frenzy is spreading across the world. In fact, producers at Buena Vista International Television Latin America will produce four new versions of the popular show.
Buena Vista International Television Latin America announced plans Thursday to produce four new versions of the Golden Globe-winning series in Spanish and Portuguese.
Each version of the show will have its own cast and cultural allusions, though the underlying plot will stay true to the format of the original series.
The Spanish versions of the show, titled Amas de casas desesperadas, will air in Colombia, Argentina and Ecuador and the Portuguese version, titled Donas de casa desesperadas, will air in Brazil. “The script of the series perfectly fit the profile of what the Latin American audience looks for,” Fernando Barbosa, senior vice president of Buena Vista International Television Latin America, said in a statement. “It looks similar to the telenovelas.”
What do you think? Will the show succeed across cultural boundaries?

Ellen Pompeo Of Grey’s Anatomy Interviewed By TV Guide
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Drama, ABC, Grey’s Anatomy, Talent,
Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey on the fan-adored, ratings blockbuster Grey’s Anatomy, recently participated in a delightful interview with TV Guide. Did you know that Ellen used to be a cocktail waitress? That when hospitals recognize her, her relatives get special treatment? And that she’s played two psychotic killers in earlier roles? Even though Izzy will always be our favorite Grey’s character, Ellen’s interview is a good read.
TV Guide: How much like Meredith Grey are you?
Pompeo: She wasn’t much of a student, and that certainly was me. The fact that I’m convincing is a huge triumph for me because I’m not that [kind of] book person. I adore books but on my time and not in a classroom. I was very restless. I’m a gypsy at heart. As soon as I turned 18, I started traveling.TV Guide: Where did you go?
Pompeo: I went to Europe, and then I spent three years cocktail-waitressing in Miami in the early ‘90s when it was fabulous. When I first got there, it looked like a scene out of Scarface: old people sitting on the porches, and all these dilapidated hotels. And then I moved to New York City in the mid-‘90s.TV Guide: And instantly found fame and fortune?
Pompeo: Actually, I bartended. My first professional job was a L’Oreal commercial. They dyed my hair fire-engine red. It was supposed to go away after six washes but, you know, bright copper hair doesn’t wash out that quickly!

Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Drama, ABC, Talent,
Flockhart, famous for her portrayal of conflicted lawyer Ally McBeal (and even more famous for her diminishing weight,) will return to series television in Brothers and Sisters. The drama is described as an adult soap opera centering on adult siblings who must band together to run the family business after the death of their father. Rachel Grffiths of Six Feet Under fame will also star.
Golden Globe winners Rachel Griffiths and Calista Flockhart have been tapped to star in ABC’s drama pilot “Brothers & Sisters.”
The project is a family soap centering on adult siblings.

Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Drama, NBC, Internet, News,
The NBC series Conviction, which follows a band of idealistic, young, and photogenic attorneys, will premiere March 3rd - unless you’re an iTunes user - in which case, you can watch it right now.
NBC says it will offer the premiere episode of “Conviction” as a free download on the Apple music-and-video service, beginning Tuesday (Feb. 21) and running until the show’s debut. After the show premieres, episodes will be available for the standard iTunes price of $1.99 each.
“We believe we have a youthful and energetic cast that should appeal to a new audience that is increasingly comfortable with this downloadable format as a viewing option,” NBC CEO Jeff Zucker says. “The multi-platform efforts are a buzz-generator for certain shows such as ‘Conviction,’ and we want to proactively reach out to these viewers.”

Encouraged by the success of the series Monk, featuring a delightfully weird OCD detective, the USA network will soon premier a new ‘dramedy’ with a similar style. Psych will follow the adventures of a detective who, desperate for work, cons law enforcement into believing he has psychic powers. Sounds like a winner to us!
Like “Monk,” “Psych” features an unlikely detective. The series centers on Shawn Spencer (James Roday), an amateur sleuth who cons the police into believing he has psychic powers that help him solve crimes. With the reluctant assistance of his best friend (Dule Hill, of “The West Wing”), he has no choice but to get to work on complicated cases. Corbin Bernsen co-stars as Shawn’s police officer father.
“Psych,” written by Steve Franks, is tentatively slated to premiere July 7 in “Monk’s” 10 p.m. Friday slot.

Jeff Goldblum To Star In NBC Crime Drama Seeing Red
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Drama, NBC, Talent,
Jeff “The Fly” Goldblum will star in a new NBC crime drama series, Seeing Red. Technically, the actor is still in negotiations, but who wouldn’t do whatever necessary to hire Jeff Goldblum? Goldblum will star as a troubled (is there any other kind on TV?) cop who can communicate with dead people. Talking to dead people has become quite the trend in television lately.
Most famous for his film roles in hits such as The Fly and Jurassic Park, Goldblum’s intense presence should light up the small screen. We’ll certainly be tuning in.

There Are People Crazier Than Anne Heche In ABC’s Men In Trees
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Drama, ABC, Talent,
Actress, girlfriend of famous actors/actresses…Anne Heche has earned some celebrity status, although what she is most famous for is her widely publicized, very strange breakdown when she declared that she was an alien from another planet. In a truly ironic twist, Anne has been cast as a psychologist in ABC’s new drama, Men In Trees. In the show, Anne’s character moves to Alaska after finding out her husband has been unfaithful, and finds herself surrounded by rugged wilderness and rugged men alike.
Perhaps it will be entertaining. It is said that crazy people make the best therapists…
