Jeff Goldblum Gets Ready To See Dead People In Raines
Posted by NoName Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, NBC, Talent,
NBC has given Jeff Goldblum the opportunity to take the Raines and portray a cop who sees dead people in its upcoming paranormal series. It is planned to be a companion to the network’s other moderate hit, Medium. The Pennsylvania born actor might bring new life to this “after life” idea the network keeps trying to sell. Raines promises an innovative police drama that mixes in a bit of humor with a pinch of intrigue. Goldblum will play Michael Raines, an eccentric LAPD detective who has a peculiar gift that causes him to revisit some of his own demons while solving his cases. Cool! Hey he has seen aliens and dinosaurs, what’s a few ghosts?

When I saw the commercials for the new NBC show “Windfall” with Luke Perry in it, it kind of made me feel old. I guess I haven’t really seen Perry in much since 90210 days. Okay, I wasn’t a Perry fan when 90210 was big.
Windfall starts this Thursday, June 8th on NBC. It’s based around the lives of 20 people who all win the lottery. Perry and Lana Parrilla play Peter and Nina Schaefer on the show. The series starts with the Nina and Peter at a get together and they drop a few dollars in a pot that will buy lottery tickets. If the group wins then they get their share of the jackpot. Well as you guessed they win big to the tune of $386 million dollars. They’re just two of the 20 people whose lives change after those lucky numbers are drawn.
The show answers the question you always ask yourself when you buy a lottery ticket…how will my life change? It’s a nice fresh idea for summer TV.

The Hills: Does America Really Need a Laguna Beach Spin-Off?
Posted by Abby Rose Dalto Categories: Drama, Reality, Cable, The Hills,
The first two seasons of the MTV reality series Laguna Beach: The Real O.C. posed the very serious moral question: Kristin or Lauren? Reality television (and yes, I use the term “reality” loosely) often forces us to choose between two pretty, but vapid blondes. Hello, Paris and Nicole. However the love triangle between Kristin Cavallari, Lauren “L.C.” Conrad, and Stephen Colletti (a guy who honestly, didn’t seem to be worth the trouble) left us a nation divided.
Those of you on the L.C. bandwagon are no doubt excited about The Hills, a Laguna Beach spin-off that follows the fashion student and her new friends through school and an internship at Teen Vogue. After having watched the premiere episode, I’m convinced that The Hills will follow Laguna Beach’s this-can’t-be-real-reality format and that’s what will keep the fans tuning in.
Both Kristin and Lauren fans alike will enjoy watching her fumbling through an internship she isn’t remotely qualified for and partying in an apartment she can’t possibly afford on her own. Oh and of course, the previews have been teasing us with the reunion of L.C. and smarmy ex-boyfriend Jason (although I’ll admit, anyone is better than whiny, undernourished Stephen at this point). I am admittedly much too old to watch a show about over-privileged teens and their antics, but something about Laguna Beach and The Hills just sucks me in. I think it’s one of those “so-bad-it’s-good” guilty pleasures that we all have. Lauren Conrad is mine.
Meanwhile, the third season of Laguna Beach, due to premiere sometime later this summer, will focus on both familiar cast members and new ones, including L.C.’s sister. I think the only question left to ask now is: what ever happened to Lo???

Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz Break Up
Posted by Eric Chaloux Categories: Drama, Talent, Gossip, News,
Attention single women and single men - Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz are both available again. Cruz’s spokesman just announced that it’s official that the couple has split up. The two met while costarring in the 2005 movie Sahara. If you didn’t see that flick, you’re not missing all that much. The two broke up, according to People Magazine, four weeks ago due to busy work schedules.
The University of Texas Alumni, McConaughey appeared in Failure to Launch earlier this year with Sarah Jessica Parker. Meanwhile, Cruz has a hot film on her hands in Pedro Almodovar’s Volver, (Return ), which caught the eyes of filmgoers at the Cannes Film Festival.
Who knows who they’ll meet on the set of their new projects. Cruz is in Spain filming Manolete. It’s a drama about the legendary Spanish bullfighter, costarring Adrien Brody. Meanwhile, McConaughey is shooting We Are Marshall, about former Marshall University football coach Jack Lengyel. Seems like a lot of guys on the set of that one the only big named female co-star is Kate Mara from Brokeback Mountain.

Falcon Beach hits the air waves Sunday 8/7c on ABC Family. It’s a global series that played on Canadian TV last season. So will it sink or swim here in the US? Here’s how ABC sells it, “Every summer the sleepy New England town of Falcon Beach ignites, and the surf and sand aren’t the only things heating up. When the townies and the rich kids who summer at Falcon Beach collide, the sparks fly.” Steve Byers plays Jason Tanner the Jock of the show. You might recognize Byers as from his appearances on La Femme Nikita and A Simple Wish. Or you probably won’t recognize him. He also got some work on MTV’s comedy series 2Gether.
Jennifer Kydd plays another one of the leads in the role of Paige Bradshaw. Jennifer appeared in the TV series as Doc for PAX/CTV and Zoe Busiek: Wild Card for Lifetime. Kydd’s little big screen work includes Rush of Fear for Carlton America and Heart of a Stranger for Lifetime. She also starred in the series pilot of See Robin Jones for USA/Family Channel and performed in the feature film Love That Boy.
On interesting thing about the show is that it’s big on indie music. Including bands like Pilate, Doctor, Paper Moon and Matt Mays & El Torpedo along with some bigger label artists like Sam Roberts, Holly McNarland and Sloan. According to the show’s Web site, “For now, they’re making the most of every minute while it lasts. There are no right answers, just the endless possibilities of summer. What does that mean for the dreamers and the schemers, the lovers and doubters, the people tied to the past and the ones trying to break free from it? That’s the thing about Falcon Beach. Anything is possible. But somebody’s bound to get burned.”
Does that include the summer TV viewer? Forget the sunscreen…bring the remote just in case.

Whether he was playing Lumiere or Det. Lenny Briscoe, actor Jerry Orbach could not be replaced. Unfortunately for the producers of Law and Order, they will have to try and do exactly that—for the second time. Actor Dennis Farina has just announced that he will be turning in his badge after only two years on the long-running show. What will this mean for the future of this NBC dynasty? Who knows? But as the creators have proven time and time again, the show can and will go on. If a rumored female partner for Det. Ed Green (actor Jesse L. Martin) comes to fruition, this could give the show the new spark that its needed. Or the series could simply end up just like another L&O: Special Victims Unit .... or L&O: Criminal Intent for that matter. The true blue L&O original will enter its seventeenth year on Fridays this fall.

More Jail Time for Lost’s Michelle Rodriguez

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Lost, Talent, Gossip,
As if dying on TV wasn’t enough, Lost’s Michelle Rodriguez has found herself in a real-life version of purgatory. She’s found herself in jail. Again. Having recently completed a short stint in Hawaii for a DUI, Rodriguez will soon be returning to familiar territory—this time on the mainland. Seems her trouble with the Hawaiian police force was in violation of her probation back in the States. She should have realized that her high-profile arrest would make news back in California. For breaking the terms of her previous driving-related offenses, the California courts sentenced her on Monday to another sixty days in the clink (her sentence will begin no later than May 31). Including the 48 hours she spent in the California jail back in 2004, this will now be Rodriguez’s third time behind bars. With any luck, maybe she can have a roll around in the hay with one of the prison guards so that she can steal his keys…

‘The L Word’ Welcomes Marlee Matlin
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Drama, Cable, Showtime, Talent,
Marlee Matlin, known for her superb acting talent and bringing deaf characters to movies and television, will join the fourth season of The L Word, airing in 2007 on Showtime. The always intriguing, often controversial series follows the trials and tribulations of a group of eclectic lesbians, boasting such talent as a post-Flashdance Jennifer Beals and the annoying yet unbelievably sexy Mia Kirshner.
Word has it that Beal’s character Bette will develop quite the thing for Matlin’s artist character. We’re looking forward to seeing what this talented, gentle-eyed actress will bring to this wild show.

The Complete ‘Law & Order’ Franchise Renewed For Next Season
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Drama, Prime Time, NBC, News,
If only the good die young, then the Law & Order franchise must be very, very bad. All three shows have been renewed for the 2006-2007 television season.
The enormously popular, unbelievably long-running detective drama Law & Order, which spawned two equally popular series, has been airing for sixteen years. Even more impressive, it’s the longest-running crime show ever, and the second most popular drama among the coveted 18-49 age demographic. Wow. Along with the original, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Law & Order: SVU (the best of the three in our humble opinion) have been renewed.
It’s refreshing to see a network recognize quality, and the fans demand it. Your Sundays (Criminal Intent), Tuesdays (SVU), and Wednesdays (the original) will continue to offer at least one good show to enjoy. Looks like crime does pay.

Lost’s Michelle Rodriguez Is Going To Jail
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Drama, ABC, Lost, News,
Perhaps she’s selfish. Or maybe she’s taking this ‘bad girl’ thing too far. Whatever the reason, Michelle Rodriguez, who plays tough chick and (ironically) ex-cop Ana Lucia on ABC’s Lost, has chosen jail over community service.
Rodriguez was cited for drunk driving in December 2005, just minutes before her co-star Cynthia Watros (Libby) received the same treatment. After enjoying the bars together, the women were left to enjoy some breathalyzer tests. They both failed and received DUI citations. Tsk, tsk.
Rodriguez seemed nonchalant about her decision to don some prison garb: “I kind of have to get back to my life, go back to making some money.” Of course, it wouldn’t do for this Girlfight-er to appear scared of a wimpy little thing like jail.
This news set off a fresh buzz of gossip among fans concerning the possible elimination of Rodriguez’s character, just a week after similar rumors erupted over Watros’ character. Neither the demise of Ana Lucia or Libby seems certain, but it does make you wonder if maybe the women should’ve left the partying on the island.
