Jesse Metcalfe Enters Rehab

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Desperate Housewives, Gossip, Rumors,
What is the deal with young Hollywood? I guess you can make an argument that celebs like Lindsay and Britney are at least getting help for their troubles. The next rehab candidate is former hottie gardener from Desperate Housewives, Jesse Metcalfe. According to reports, he started treatment at an undisclosed rehab facility on Monday to “deal with alcohol issues.” I guess the weekend tuckered him out—according to E! Online, Metcalfe was seen at four L.A. clubs on Saturday. He was also denied a hotel room at an L.A. hotel on Friday because of his drunken behavior. According to his rep, “He realized he had a problem and was anxious to deal with it immediately.” Of course, the rep also added the obligatory wish that he “hopes that the media will allow him the privacy to deal properly with his treatment.”

Prison Break Renewed for Third Season

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, FOX, Prison Break, Ratings, Renewals,
I’ll admit it. I loved Prison Break during the first season, but have steadily lost interest this year. The start of season two, I’d watch the show while doing something else… the last few weeks, I just haven’t watched it at all. I do get second-hand info from my husband and recaps, and it does sound like things are picking up again. But a third season? Honestly, what are they going to do for a third year? You just know it was more exciting when they were locked up, so maybe season three will have them back in the slammer? Creator/executive producer Paul Scheuring said, “It’s going to return to the fundamental conceit, to the roots of what the show was about.” Yep, sounds like they might be back behind bars after all. “They got scattered in the winds—their stories became separate and defused,” Scheuring said. “They will come back together again, (and) their conflicts and interactions will return.” Ratings are still going pretty well, with an average of 9.1 million tuning in each week.

‘Brothers & Sisters’ Welcomes Guest Stars From ‘Dharma & Greg’

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC,
I don’t think I’m alone when I say that I absolutely adore the show Brothers & Sisters. Great cast, great storylines, great Rob Lowe… well, you know what I mean. Anyway, time to bring in some guest stars to liven things up. Be on the lookout for former Dharma & Greg cast members Jenna Elfman and Susan Sullivan to make an appearance. Elfman played kooky earth-child Dharma to Sullivan’s uptight socialite, Kitty Montgomery. This time around, they’ll be playing mother and daughter rivals of the Walker clan. Sullivan plays Miranda Jones, while Elfman is a pregnant Lizzie Jones-Baker. The fun is underway when they take part in a rematch of a family game night, complete with new step-sis Rebecca. The episode will air April 15th.

‘The Riches’ off to a Good Start on FX

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Cable, Cable/Satellite, Ratings,
The Riches premiered on Monday on FX and the viewership was great. I am eager to see this show, but somehow my dedication to What About Brian forced me to DVR The Riches and watch Brian instead. Boy, did I choose poorly. I could have used a taste of something new, rather than the same old thing on Brian. But that show is a whole other discussion. On to The Riches, starring big fave of mine Eddie Izzard and the talented Minnie Driver. Here’s the thing—I wasn’t sure how this was going to be received. Fans of Izzard are most likely expecting him in all his comedic glory and instead he’s playing the drama card. Not that he hasn’t done that before—he has acted in a handful of serious roles and he’s more than capable. It’s just that, if you’ve ever seen his standup special Dress to Kill (and if you haven’t, quickly run out and rent it—it’s the funniest thing out there), you are probably expecting him to play funny on The Riches. Despite the seriousness, the show averaged 3.8 million viewers. If you missed it, FX will re-air the debut on Saturday at 10 p.m. and Sunday at 11 p.m. With any luck, I’ll get a chance to watch it on my DVR before the weekend.

Lane Garrison Charged With Manslaughter, DUI

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, FOX, Prison Break, Gossip,
Well, here’s one actor that’s certain to have an E! Boulevard of Broken Dreams special. Lane Garrison, who had a glimpse of the spotlight when he played Tweener on Prison Break, has been charged with manslaughter, driving under the influence, and providing alcohol to a minor. In this case, life is imitating art, since Garrison has already played the make-believe role of inmate. Garrison was involved in a car crash that injured two 15-year-old girls and killed a 17-year-old boy in December. Today, Garrison was charged with vehicular manslaughter. If convicted, Garrison could have over six years of prison time ahead of him. According to his lawyer, Garrison was invited to a party by the teenagers and crashed his car into a tree on the way to there. His blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit for California.

Tim Daly on Board for Grey’s Spinoff

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Grey’s Anatomy,
From the never-aging men’s club (of which, Rob Lowe is president), Tim Daly will be joining the cast of the hoped-for Grey’s Anatomy spinoff. Daly will appear in the upcoming two-hour Grey’s Anatomy episode that is expected to launch a spinoff featuring Dr. Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh). Also on board for the new series is Paul Adelstein, who plays Secret Service Special Agent Paul Kellerman on Prison Break. What’s that mean for Prison Break fans? Is the writing on the wall for Agent Kellerman? That’s another story, I suppose. Adlestein did appear in the pilot episode of Grey’s. Sexy Taye Diggs has already signed on for the episode and potential new series. The two-hour extravaganza will put Addison in a position that may have her leaving Seattle Grace. Daly was last seen in the canceled series The Nine.

Casting News: James Van Der Beek, Scott Wolf

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC,
Scott Wolf, right off the cancellation of The Nine has been cast as the lead in an ABC comedy. Yep, comedy. The Party of Five star has signed on to play a lawyer in an untitled series. He will be the leader of a litigation team. I look forward to seeing what his dimples bring to the show.
In other casting news, James Van Der Beek will be joining ABC’s Football Wives. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen Van Der Beek, and no doubt his experience in the film Varsity Blues will give him a leg up. The drama will take a look a the lives of women who marry NFL players. Van Der Beek will play a rookie. The wives will be played by Kiele Sanchez, Lucy Lawless and Gabrielle Union.

Black Donnellys Brings in Disappointing Numbers

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, NBC, Ratings,
NBC certainly hoped that The Black Donnellys would bring in better numbers than the show it replaced, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Turns out it didn’t perform well either, despite the hype. Donnellys only average 8.4 million viewers for its debut, only slightly assisted by the lead-in audience from Heroes. Heroes ran over into Black Donnellys’ timeslot, so the 14.3 million who were watching may have held on for the debut of Donnellys. However, they didn’t stick around—the numbers dropped to 6.8 million at 10:30 p.m. Studio 60, by comparison, averaged 6.1 million viewers during its last episode. I saw a clip on E! with Kritin Veitch where she said that Studio 60 is as expensive to cancel as it is to create, so NBC is certainly between the proverbial rock and hard place.

Anna Nicole Attends Her Last Party

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Reality, Specials, Cable, Gossip, News, Rumors,
Though the Anna Nicole Smith case still hasn’t been put to rest (nothing about Anna’s estate or her baby daughter has been decided), Anna herself will finally be put to rest Friday, March 2, 2007. The beautiful former model/reality TV star will be buried next to her son in the Bahamas, wearing a custom-made gown for the occasion. The very public funeral will give all those who cared about Anna the chance to mourn, but the event promises some surprises for fans, as well. According to insiders, an “undisclosed singer” will perform at Anna Nicole Smith’s funeral. The song that will be sung has also not been disclosed, nor whether or not this will be a previously unheard musical event. Who will sing? What will they sing? For some reason, Anna always manages to just raise more questions. At least some of the mystery will be solved tomorrow, when Anna is finally put to rest.
