Wedding Crashers Fizzles

NBC’s 10 p.m. time slot produces another casualty. The lighter fare hidden camera show (courtesy of Ashton Kutcher), Wedding Crashers is the latest casualty. You may recall that this time also killed off much-hyped Studio 60 and The Black Donnellys. After just two showings, the show, based on the premise of the film, Wedding Crashers, has been yanked from the schedule. For the next two Mondays, Law & Order: Criminal Intent will take the 10:00 spot. Not to worry, Law & Order fans… these same new episodes will also air on the usual Tuesday night that you typically watch Criminal Intent. Given lead-in Heroes’ success, you would think some of the audience would stick around for the next show. The Real Wedding Crashers pulled in a weak debut audience of 6.75 million people, then the numbers tanked for the following week. A glimmer of hope for the few fans of this new series—NBC may air the remaining episodes over the summer.

Lauren Graham Sounds off on Gilmore Decision

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Cancellations, Ratings,
Despite the recent news that Gilmore Girls has been cancelled, star Lauren Graham seems somewhat relieved with the decision. With a hit to the ratings and a hectic schedule, Graham is happy to see the show end. “I think it’s the best decision for the show,” Graham said. “One of the things Alexis (Bledel) and I wished could be different was the schedule, and it really can’t be.” Single mom, Lorelai (Graham) and daughter Rory (Bledel) have been drawing viewers for seven seasons, but last year creator Amy Sherman-Palladino jumped ship and the show seemed to lose its momentum for some viewers. Get it while you can. The final Gilmore Girls will air on May 15th. Graham can next be seen opposite Steve Carell in Evan Almighty. I’m sure this is not the last we’ve seen of her.

The End for Scrubs?

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, Scrubs, Cancellations, Ratings, Renewals, Rumors,
So, last week’s promos for Scrubs made it sound a little doom-and-gloom when they announced there were only four episodes left. It didn’t occur to me that that could mean the last episodes… forever. All of a sudden, there’s been a bunch of speculation online about whether or not the show will continue after this year. How could it not? I mean, didn’t Zach Braff just get some major paycheck for the next season? Didn’t I read that even if NBC didn’t continue with another year of the series that ABC would pick it up? It seemed like all was good in the Scrubs universe. But now, plenty of folks are questioning if this is the final season… and not even Braff knows for sure. Braff said, “I don’t know about Scrubs. It will probably be one of those things that gets decided at the last second. I think it will be on. We’re just not sure, but there’s a chance that it will be on ABC, because they seem to want it.” It’s all pretty unclear, but apparently there is a cliffhanger at the end of this season, so if it doesn’t return next year, we may never have things wrapped up. May 15th seems to be the date that the decision will be made. Fingers and toes are crossed that we’ll be seeing the Scrubs gang for one more season.

Gilmore Future Doesn’t Look Good

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Cancellations, News,
Though rumor suggested that the CW, Warner Bros., and the Gilmore Girls would come to terms on a shortened eighth season of the hit show, sources are now saying talks have stopped completely. Insiders say that actresses Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel – the Gilmore Girls themselves – have not signed off on the offers proposed to each of them. Though the monetary amounts proposed were “very good,” neither actress has accepted a final amount. So far, it’s anyone’s guess whether the show will actually return or not…creating lots of speculation around the season (series?) finale scheduled for May 15, 2007.

May’s Big Sendoffs

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, CBS, FOX, The CW, American Idol, Desperate Housewives, King of Queens, The Bachelor, The CW, Cancellations, Gossip, Renewals,
It’s May, and that can only mean one thing: finales. The official TV season is ending so that summer’s reality programming can begin, but all the hot shows are determined to go out with a bang. Which show will have the most surprising finale of all? Which shows will only be coming back in re-runs? How will they all say good-bye? There’s only one way to find out – but you don’t have to watch them all.
After nine hilarious seasons, The King of Queens cast will say their final good-byes on Monday, May 14 at 9pm ET. The CBS show will get a big send-off to cap off its almost decade-long run, giving fans that chance to laugh at Kevin James and Jerry Stiller one last time. The dramatic hour-long finale will have plenty of tears but lots of laughter, too. Insiders say the show will have a happy ending. The real tragedy behind King of Queens going off the air is that Jerry Stiller will no longer have a sitcom gig – and that man is hysterical.

Studio 60 Returns in May

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, NBC, Cancellations, Ratings, Renewals,
There’s a few of us Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip fans left who have been wondering whether the show would be back or not. Let’s all give a collective sigh, because it’s set to return in May. Don’t get too comfortable, however. It’s a pretty safe bet that after the show wraps up this season, this will be the last of it. Hey, at least NBC is being decent enough to finish out the remaining taped episodes, but there’s no telling if these last six shows are going to wrap up anything. Add to that the weirdness that Studio 60 will return at 10 p.m. on Thursdays. It’s a shame this show never caught on with viewers—I think it was interesting and had spectacular writing and acting. Heck, I’m not even a Matthew Perry fan (sorry Chandler lovers), and I couldn’t wait to watch the chemistry between him and Bradley Whitford every week. The show will return on May 24th.

Super Hyped ‘Drive’ Cancelled

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, FOX, House, Cancellations, Ratings,
I don’t know what it was about the promos for Fox’s new show Drive, but whenever they were on, I tuned out. As a result, I had no idea what the show was even about. I tried to focus my attention on an ad for it once, but still didn’t understand what was going on. I guess I’m not the only one who tuned out. Drive has been cancelled after only three airings. And I still don’t know what it was about. Some kind of car race starring Nathan Fillion (Firefly), Drive only managed to muster up 5.6 million viewers overall. House repeats will fill the Monday void left by Drive. If you had tuned in for this show, and want more, two remaining episodes may air at some point or be put online.

Final ‘Andy Barker’ Eps Move to Saturday

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, Scrubs, Cancellations, Internet, Ratings, Renewals,
So, this doesn’t look like good news for Andy Barker, P.I.—it’s moving to Saturdays. The kiss of death, perhaps, but at least NBC is keeping it on the schedule and not pulling it altogether. The likelihood of renewal is slim to none for this ratings dud, which earned the title of NBC’s lowest-rated series this season. Me, I like it. I love Andy Richter and I’m glad to see Arrested Development‘s Tony Hale back on TV. But I can also see where this quirky comedy could fail to deliver to a mainstream audience. So, if you’ve been following along with this series, be warned that the final two episodes will air back-to-back on Saturday, April 14th at 8 p.m. You’d think for two little episodes, they could have kept it on Thursday, huh? Scrubs will fill in for the 9:30 p.m. Thursday slot, then move back to 9 p.m. in May.

An Angelic Ending for 7th Heaven Fans

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, The CW, Cancellations,
After eleven seasons of warm-hearted life lessons and family drama, 7th Heaven is coming to an end. Though the show was slated for cancellation a year ago, impressive season finale ratings breathed new life into the Heavenly CW drama…just not enough life to sustain the show past one last season. But it’s going to come to an end for sure this time, so fans are getting ready to say a tearful good-bye on Monday, May 13. After eleven years and dizzying cast additions, the show remains one of the most successful to ever exist on the once-WB network. 7th Heaven also launched the career of Hollywood “it” girl Jessica Biel. Tune in to the finale for a powerful ending to the Camden family saga…there may be a surprise or two in yet in store for fans.

Fox’s Wedding Bells Meets its Demise

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, FOX, Cancellations, Ratings,
I don’t want to be a naysayer here, but Wedding Bells, the latest drama/comedy from David E. Kelley, seemed doomed to begin with. After just seven episodes, production has shut down, so it looks to be a done deal for the show. This show never really had much of a chance, with a shaky premise and some time slot shuffles. The show starred Teri Polo, KaDee Strickland and Sarah Jones as sisters running a wedding planning business. It had a great premiere following American Idol, then was scuttled off to the darkest recesses of Friday nights, where ratings steadily declined. “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, the show just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for,” Fox said in a statement. Looks like the honeymoon’s over. Sorry, had to be said.
