The stars of Meet the Barkers, drummer Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler, are now on their way to Splitsville. Despite the birth of their daughter just seven months ago, Travis filed for divorce this week from the former Miss USA winner. I smell a cheater out there somewhere. After a high-profile romance with Oscar de la Hoya, Moakler married the Blink-182 drummer on Halloween in 2004. Shanna has one child with the boxer and two with Barker.
For those who have lost track, this would be the third MTV-related couple to go down the tubes in the past year—- the first two being Jess/Nick and Carmen/Dave. Nick Lachey better take note. If his current fling with Vanessa Minnillo falls apart, he could be the first and fourth MTV relationship to fall apart in the year.

Less than a year after winning the Oscar for Best Documentary, March of the Penguins comes to network television. Strangely enough, it was the Hallmark Channel that scored the US premiere coup. Of all cable channels, the Discovery or even ABC Family channels I would expect….but not Hallmark. Nevertheless, a good movie gets to be seen by all. The movie will air just after Thanksgiving on Saturday, Nov. 25. So set a date to gather your family around the television—realizing that you don’t have to carry an egg on your feet in blizzard conditions will definitely make you thankful about something.

Rob Lowe to Star in TNT Movie
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Cable, TNT-HD, West Wing, The,
Good news for Rob Lowe fans—he’s returning to the small screen, starring in the TNT movie A Perfect Day. The movie is an adaptation of Richard Paul Evans’ best-selling novel, and will be part of TNT’s “Johnson & Johnson Spotlight Presentation.” Former Johnson & Johnson features include The Wool Cap and Door to Door.
Michael Wright, head of original programming at TNT said of Lowe, “After having worked with Rob Lowe on previous TNT productions, we are thrilled to have him in the lead role for A Perfect Day. We couldn’t hope for a better actor to bring to the screen this heartwarming drama about one man’s journey through self-discovery.” Lowe’s character is Richard Harlan, who gets fired from his job, writes a novel and becomes an overnight success. His journey allows him to refocus on his life priorities.
Lowe was on the first four seasons of The West Wing, which he earned Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for. Call me crazy, but I never tire of seeing his ageless beauty. Look for A Perfect Day, airing on TNT in December.

Ugh. Seems Danny Bonaduce’s star hasn’t fallen just yet. Following last fall’s train wreck on VH1, Breaking Bonaduce, you would think he wouldn’t be in such hot demand. Well, the Game Show Network (GSN) is ready to take him on as the host of their newest show. Bonaduce will be the host of Starface, a game show where the challenges are based on celebrity gossip. Says Bonaduce of the show, “This is the weirdest show I’ve ever done by leaps and bounds.” I guess Breaking Bonaduce gave him the exposure to get other offers as well—his story will be the subject of an upcoming A&E biography, plus he has had several high-profile radio offers.

Julianna Margulies on Sci Fi Channel Series
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Sci-Fi/Horror, Cable, Talent,
Following her rise to fame on ER, Julianna Margulies left the show for what promised to be bigger things. Then she seemed to leave the spotlight, with movie roles here and there, but nothing too memorable. Now Margulies returns to the small screen for a Sci Fi Channel limited series, titled The Lost Room. In it, she plays a woman who contacts a detective (played by Peter Krause) about the death of her brother – who was killed for a motel room key that unlocks a room full of power. The six-hour series will premiere in December. Margulies will also appear in upcoming episodes of The Sopranos and in the film Snakes on a Plane, with Samuel L. Jackson.

Vince and the boys are heading to the agency. Ari has another ‘surprise’ for Vince and has asked them to stop by. Drama uses the car ride as an opportunity to read aloud the pilot’s script. The audition Lloyd scored for Drama will give him an opportunity to work with Ed Burns. Given Drama’s history with Ed, he believes he will have a good chance of getting the part. Meanwhile, Lloyd has been swamped answering calls all day at the office. Word about Ari’s new building space has leaked and now their lines have been flooded with inquiries. Although Lloyd hate lyings, Ari insists that he continue to deny, deny, deny.

American Idol Winner’s Upcoming Movie
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Music, Prime Time, Cable, FOX, American Idol,
American Idol‘s third season winner, Fantasia Barrino, will bring her life story to a TV movie titled Fantasia: Life is Not a Fairy Tale. Fantasia has made it well known that her past was difficult, first in a book and now in a Lifetime movie to air on August 19th. In the movie, American Idol producers are shown urging her to withdraw from the competition because she was an unwed mother and high school dropout. Fox is not taking the accusation lightly, with Idol executive producer Ken Warwick telling the New York Post, “We knew she had a baby right from Day One, and she was always strongly tipped to win the competition because she was so good. I can absolutely refute that nothing was done, or even remotely suggested to her that she shouldn’t take part in the competition. It’s a complete fabrication.”
Fantasia will play herself in the movie, and hopes to inspire others to overcome the obstacles they face.

MTV Turns 25—With Little Fanfare
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Reality, Cable, News, Video,
A milestone for MTV—25 years (man, don’t I feel old?)! You would think MTV would pull out all the stops with an all-star celebration, a walk down memory lane, and oh-so-much-more. Looks like that’s not the case however, as MTV will be quietly celebrating their 25th. For those of us old enough to remember the pioneering moment when MTV splashed in our face, it’s a bit sad to think they aren’t embracing their age. MTV premiered on August 1st, 1981 at midnight, with the first video by The Buggles’ (appropriately called “Video Killed the Radio Star”). Ah, I long for the good ‘ole days, when they actually played music videos!
Re-live some of the great moments of MTV at USA Today. Hey MTV—you don’t look a day over 20 to me!

New Season of Girls Next Door Starts Sunday
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Reality, Cable, Renewals,
I admit it. I watch it—not faithfully, mind you—but I have seen more than my fair share of The Girls Next Door on E! Seems I’m not the only one to tune in because E! renewed the reality show for a second season. The series follows Girls Holly Madison, Kendra Wilkinson and Bridget Marquardt, who all are Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends and live at the Playboy Mansion. My personal viewership is pure curiousity. I just can’t wrap my head around the fact that three women are shacking up with Hefner. But, I suppose, it is the Playboy Mansion and he is a millionaire, so their “attraction” to him is likely based on access to the finer things in life. E!‘s executive producer for the series, Brent Zacky says, “It’s surprising, considering what many of the skeptics said when it first aired. I think a major reason for its success is that the viewers love the girls.” Well, I wouldn’t go that far, but I’m only speaking for myself. At any rate, I’m sure I’ll be tuning in again at some point during season 2—the new season premieres on Sunday night.

It was only a matter of time before someone made a movie ‘o the week about the pandemic. Who doesn’t love a little doom and gloom as the world is overtaken with disease? And who will save us from the deadly virus? The Hallmark Channel is currently producing a movie called (appropriately) Pandemic—with an all-star cast: Tiffani Thiessen, Vincent Spano, Faye Dunaway, Eric Roberts, French Stewart, Bruce Boxleitner, Renee Taylor and Bob Gunton. The movie will follow the snowball effect of a young man’s death from flu-like symptoms as he travels from Los Angeles to Australia. The passengers are quarantined, but of course, the doctor from the Center for Disease Control (played by Thiessen) has to stop the spread of the virus and save the world. Gotta love the casting—French Stewart plays another doctor, Eric Roberts is the mayor of Los Angeles, and Faye Dunaway is the governor of California. No word yet on an air date.
