Bravo Looking For Next top Chef
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Reality, Specials, Cable, Talent, Renewals,
The popular reality show Top Chef is looking for the next great Julia Child or Emeril Legasse. (Remember Emeril? Apparently he was quite the cooking sensation before he sold out to appear in toothpaste commercials.) Bravo has ordered a second season of Top Chef, and now needs…well, a top chef.
In case you’ve missed it, Top Chef is a kinder, gentler version of Hell’s Kitchen, where chefs of all specialties compete against each other to be named the best. Producers are now auditioning contestants for the second season, and will focus their search in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Las Vegas. Have you got what it takes? Then grab your white hat and apron and go for it.
If you’re already a fan, you’ll be pleased to know that the May 17 season finale has been extended to two hours, and will feature The Sopranos sensation Lorraine Bracco. There’s also a special reunion show that will air May 10. Now that’s cooking up good television.

The Sci-Fi Channel Promises 28 New Original Movies
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Sci-Fi/Horror, Cable,
How can we describe our love for the Sci-Fi Channel? Surely, no water has ever run as deep. Not only does the channel often air our beloved 1980s horror movies, it offers the most entertaining, unbelievably so-bad-it’s-good original programming on television.
Once we viewed the quirkily titled Mansquito (the tale of a half-man/ half-mosquito, naturally) we were hooked. The terrible dialogue, cheap special effects, and outrageous plot lines are just what we need in this stuck-up era of FCC regulated television.
Sci Fi’s 2007 season will boast such original gems as Supergator, Lake Placid II (woohoo!), and Yeti: Curse of the Snow Demon. It’s useless to resist; just tune in with us. You won’t be sorry.

‘The L Word’ Welcomes Marlee Matlin
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Drama, Cable, Showtime, Talent,
Marlee Matlin, known for her superb acting talent and bringing deaf characters to movies and television, will join the fourth season of The L Word, airing in 2007 on Showtime. The always intriguing, often controversial series follows the trials and tribulations of a group of eclectic lesbians, boasting such talent as a post-Flashdance Jennifer Beals and the annoying yet unbelievably sexy Mia Kirshner.
Word has it that Beal’s character Bette will develop quite the thing for Matlin’s artist character. We’re looking forward to seeing what this talented, gentle-eyed actress will bring to this wild show.

Lifetime Channel Brings You A Magical May

Lifetime, Lifetime, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Women in peril, cold-hearted villains, stalkers and hauntings and crime…not to mention addictions, kinky fetishes, and hospital mix-ups resulting in getting the wrong baby. Does television get any better than this?
Lifetime has made my—and many fans’—day with its announcement that the women-targeted channel will air a brand-new movie every day in May.
The line-up boasts popular stars including Grey’s Anatomy’s Ellen Pompeo, the ever popular Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Charmed hottie Rose McGowan. Upcoming titles including such gems as Cradle of Lies and Murder On Pleasant Drive. May can’t get here soon enough!
Scorn the channel all you want, but Lifetime offers many valuable skills, such as: how to fake your own death, the best way to murder a cheating spouse and get away with it, and how to seek revenge on anyone who has ever wronged you. And without Lifetime, how would Tracey Gold and Tori Spelling ever get steady employment? (Because trust us, So NoTORIus is not going to last long.)

It’s True: ‘Saved By The Bell’ Will Join Adult Swim
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Animation, Comedy, Late Night, Cable, Syndication,
Zap2it has confirmed some shocking news today; the late eighties/early nineties cheesefest Saved By the Bell will join the Adult Swim line-up, known for its wild and eclectic programming. We’re all for originality, but…Saved By the Bell?
Seems like the show is being added simply because many Adult Swim staffers carry fond memories of Zack Morris and the gang. In case you were in a coma during the show’s heyday, it follows the adventures of a group of very well-scrubbed, over-acting teens trying to get through high school with as much silliness as possible. But it wasn’t all bad: it did launch stars Elizabeth Berkly and Mark-Paul Gosselaar into fame with Showgirls and NYPD Blue, respectively.
Even longer-time fans will remember that Saved By the Bell was a spin-off of Good Morning, Miss Bliss, which starred Hayley Mills and followed several of the characters through middle school. How sad is it that I knew that without having to look it up?
Fans of Adult Swim aren’t impressed, though, judging by the flaming comments on message boards, so it’s in doubt whether Saved By the Bell will survive its two-week trial.
Sure, TV is filled with ghosts and aliens and even scrupulous lawyers, but this has got to be the strangest thing we’ve heard in a long, long, time.

Love ‘Love Monkey?’ It’s Back!
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Comedy, Drama, Cable, CBS, Cancellations, News,
Fans decried the sudden cancellation of the CBS ‘dramedy’ Love Monkey, starring the delightfully talented (and may we say, extremely adorable) Tom Cavanagh. Cavnagh’s character, a record producer in his thirties, faced the perils of the business, life in the city, and the quest for true love, head-on.
With its unique blend of touching emotion and outlandish views of societal quirks, Love Monkey quickly became a favorite of television addicts everywhere. CBS pulled the show after only three episodes. The network claimed they made the decision due to low ratings, but three episodes? The show never even got the chance to succeed!
But take heart: VH1 is picking up the series, and will air the complete first season beginning Tuesday, April 18th.
Whether you already love it or missed it the first time, here’s your chance to enjoy a great show. Let’s just say…you’d have to be bananas to miss out on Love Monkey!

MTV Develops Skateboarding Reality Show

The channel known for its trendy programming has jumped on the latest craze: skateboarding. Okay, skateboarding has been a craze for 30 years, but it has enjoyed renewed popularity thanks to movies like Lords of Dogtown. And it seems like nearly half of MTV’s Made stars want to be skateboarders.
With the popularity of the sport on their side, MTV will likely have another hit. The show is yet untitled, and will star skateboarding sensation Rob Dyrdek and Christopher “Big Black” Boykin, Dyrdek’s friend and bodyguard. Dyrdek promises, …the world doesn’t know what it’s in for.”
Actually, Dyrdek, considering the glut of MTV reality shows we’ve been subjected to over the years, I imagine the world has a pretty good idea.
