DescriptionI guess we won’t be tuning into Bravo to ‘watch what happens’ on anymore.

While everyone has been busy wondering whether Scrubs would jump ship to ABC, another big deal was being brokered over in cable-land.  Come this fall, we will have to program in a new channel on our DVRs: the Lifetime channel.

In a surprise move, The Weinstein Co. has made a five-year deal with the female-oriented network to start airing the hit reality show come this November.  Needless to say, (Bravo’s parent company) is not pleased with this decision.  The company has filed suit in a desperate attempt to keep their ratings cash cow in place.

The program about fashion designers - hosted by - will be heading into its sixth season at the end of this year.

MONDAY (3/31)
  • Dancing with the Stars (ABC, 8pm):  The top 10 dancers take the floor tonight.  If also manages to master the fast jive, she’ll have my votes from this point out.
  • The Big Bang Theory (CBS, 8pm):  “Sheldon gets sick, but the guys refuse to take care of him because he’s such a bad patient.”  So is there such thing as a good male patient?
  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8:30):  “Barney tries to find the mystery woman who’s out to ruin his reputation, and he uses the basketball tournament-bracket template to eliminate 64 suspects.”  Okay - if CBS can’t get around to finally renewing this series, I will give them 64 reasons why I hate them.
  • New Amsterdam (FOX, 9pm):  “When a murder victim in Chinatown murder reminds John of a son he lost in the early 20th century, the investigation leads to a ruthless crime family who are related to his offspring.”  And I thought Terminator‘s storyline was trippy.

I’ve decided to enact a strict “three episode” policy for all reality shows. I won’t judge how good or bad the show is until I’ve sat through three entire episodes. This policy is painful at times, but necessary to weed awful shows out of the limited time I have to watch TV. (See .)

I’ve now completed my preliminary obligation to and despite some reservations (no pun intended) after the first two episodes, I’ve decided this could end up being a good season after all.

The fourth installment of the popular reality series takes 15 would-be celebrity chefs to the culinary mecca of Chicago. This season is a familiar blend of stereotypical characters from seasons past with one big exception: this time around there is a lesbian couple among the competitors (they compete separately, of course).

Description

I remember once a media professor at the University of Washington asked our class the simple but loaded question: Why do you watch TV? The class’ answer seemed to boil down to two main reasons: we watch television because we aspire to be what we see or because what we see makes us feel better about our own lives.

This memory popped into my head as I watched a mini-marathon of TV’s newest ‘docu-reality’ series the . What I can’t yet decide is which category of reason for watching TV this show falls into. I’m pretty sure it is the latter.

After shame watching three seasons of the , I expected the NYC ladies to be more of the same cliche of spoiled, self-indulgent, wasteful and shameless cougars albeit a bit less tan, with sleeker hair and a much less appealing accent. And while they are to an extent all of those things, much like New York City itself, these women do seem more worldly and educated than their Southern California counterparts. It is also clear that despite Bravo’s spin-off name for this show, these women are not housewives at all. In fact, it appears they spend very little time, if any, at home.

The Hills

MONDAY (3/24)
  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8:30):  The overly-promoted Britney Spears cameo finally airs tonight.  Let’s just be happy the show is only 30-minutes long.
  • Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious (CW, 9pm):  Nicole Scherzinger gives the girls tips on vocal expression.  Sadly, advice on releasing solo albums is not something she can dish out.
  • CSI: Miami (CBS, 10pm):  New episode.  “A bride is murdered at her wedding.  The investigation takes the CSIs to a strip club where the bachelor party took place.”  Strip club? This would be the perfect time for another Elizabeth Berkley appearance.
  • The Hills (MTV, 10pm):  Season premiere.  I wonder if LC wore any of her own designs in Paris.  Doubt it.

The Real Housewives of New York City

(You can view TV Envy’s Post-Strike Television Schedule here.)

MONDAY (3/10)
  • The Bachelor: Where Are They Now? (ABC, 8pm):  “Highlights from past seasons include segments catching up with past bachelors (Andrew Firestone and Aaron Buerge) and former contestants.”  So the whole point of the show is to say there is no point to this show.  Look at how successful it’s been!
  • Canterbury’s Law (FOX, 8pm):  Series premiere.  “Julianna Margulies stars as a maverick defense lawyer who plays by her own rules to help the falsely accused.”  I’m guessing will still be on long after this program goes off the air.
  • New Amsterdam (FOX, 9pm):  Regular day and time.  If you didn’t watch last Tuesday or Thursday, I’m sure you won’t tonight either.
  • October Road (ABC, 9pm):  Special time.  In the season (series?) finale, “Eddie’s ex-girlfriend shows up to reconnect with him, causing problems in his relationship with Janet.”  Since we may never get a satisfactory resolution from this ratings-starved show, let’s just pretend Janet kicks her ass.

Victoria Beckham, Project RunwayWere any of you wondering about Victoria Beckham’s comments on Project Runway the other night?  Would she really wear ‘s designs…or was she just paying him lip service?

Well, it seems Posh Spice was being totally sincere.  Or, at the very least, she’s willing to talk to Siriano again.  In an interview with People, the 21-year-old winner revealed that he already has appointment to see Beckham very soon.

“I’ll be seeing her next week, so I made her a few dresses. Hopefully she likes them, so we’ll see how it goes.  After the filming, we chatted and she really said some amazing things. And it’s such an honor because she can wear any designer she wants.”

Project Runway 4, Christian Siriano

is officially kind of a big deal tonight. The 21-year-old freelance fashion designer accomplished two major goals: his collection won and he made guest judge Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham smile. In fact, the usually enigmatic pop star told Siriano she’d love to wear anything he designed.

It is no secret that Season 4 of Project Runway lacked the drama and suspense of past years. There was no big twist in the final show either- no extra “look” to cobble together in the 11th hour, no scandals involving outside sewing help and no shouting matches between fellow designers. But what the show lacked in reality TV drama it more than made up for in sophistication and style. Each of the three remaining designers offered something new and fresh to the usually jaded fashion world.

Christian SorianoWith the season finale of Bravo’s trendiest reality show, around the corner, fans across America are almost divided between the top two finalists, Christian Siriano and Jillian Lewis. I am here to tell you exactly why Christian must absolutely win this competition.

To begin, let’s talk about . Throughout the show, Rami’s designs have been good. Sometimes they were too good, and no one knew just why until last week’s episode explained why: he’s already an established designer! Unlike the other three contestants who were living in poor New York studios, Rami had his own studio. Not only that, but his collections are in fifteen boutiques in both L.A. and New York. To top it all off, he has clothed Jessica Alba (his piece is actually in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Dita Von Teese, Paula Abdul, and , to name a few. Why the hell is this guy on the show in the first place?!
