Family Guy’s Fate on FOX

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Animation, Comedy, Prime Time, FOX, Gossip,
Home of the nation’s number one show, 20th Century Fox will soon be paying one of their writer/producers one of the biggest salaries in TV. Here’s the twist: that person doesn’t work on American Idol.
Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy and American Dad, will become the best-paid writer/producer on TV thanks to his new contract. The agreement ensures that Family Guy will remain on the air until 2012, but it also covers a few other projects still in the till. Under the terms of the contract, MacFarlane will continue to pen episodes of American Dad as well as The Cleveland Show (a planned Family Guy spinoff). “I get a lot of pleasure out of making show,” said MacFarlane to the press. “It’s a bonus to get getting paid well for it, and it’s a double bonus to be getting paid exorbitantly for it.” The amount in question remains undisclosed, though it is expected to soar above the $60 million, five-year contract offered to J.J. Abrams (Lost) in 2006.

MONDAY (5/5)
- Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9:00): (The script was written by CSI scribes.) “George Eads (CSI) has a cameo in which a CSI team investigates a death at Charlie’s house.” I know Charlie wanted to stop Denise’s reality show, but this is quite a sweeps stunt.
- House (FOX, 9pm): “House believes that an actor (Jason Lewis) on his favorite soap is seriously ill after observing his symptoms on television, so he decides to intervene.” If I had known something like that would work, I would have kidnapped Smith Jerrod a long time ago.
- Samantha Who? (ABC, 9:30pm): “Sam’s affair with Todd continues while he’s still seeing a clueless Chloe.” I’m sorry—why doesn’t Sam just kick her out of her apartment again? She does own the thing, doesn’t she?
- CSI: Miami (CBS, 10pm): “Alexx is stunned when her son is the prime suspect in a murder investigation, and any help she offers could prove costly.” Buh-bye, Khandi!

Sunday Ratings: Big Brother Ends with a Thud

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Desperate Housewives, Everybody Hates Chris, Family Guy, Ratings,
The season finale of Big Brother 9 did very little for CBS. The network had the second best audience and came in third with the demos.
8pm
- Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (12 million, 3.9/10 in 18-49) improved upon last week’s Big Give.
- The Simpsons (7.7 million, 3.6/10) picked up 2.5 million more; King of the Hill (6.5 million, 3.0/8) nabbed another 2 million.
- Big Brother 9 (6.7 million, 2.3/6) came in third for the hour.
- Monk (5.8 million, 1.0/3) did about the same.
- Everybody Hates Chris (1.3 million, 0.5/1) had a repeat audience; Aliens in America (1 million, 0/4/1) lost 200,000.

MONDAY (4/28)
- Deal or No Deal (NBC, 8pm): “Darth Vader subs for The Banker in a Star Wars-themed episode that also features Carrie Fisher, R2-D2 and Chewbacca, who cheer on contesants in a winner-take-all match.” As if I needed a reason to avoid this program altogether.
- House (FOX, 9pm): New episode. “House suspects that an ER patient with a sunny disposition has a bigger problem than was initially diagnosed. The reason: He thinks the patient is too nice.” I have to admit it—cheery people are a freak of nature.
- Medium (NBC, 10pm): “Joe surprises Allison by buying her a used car, but Allison’s subsequent visions warn of the vehicle’s unsavory past.” Is it a 1958 Plymouth Fury that responds to the name ‘Christine’?
- CSI: Miami (CBS, 10pm): “A clue in a case involving the discovery of a body point the CSIs to a robbery that’s being planned on a target who holds a disturbing secret.” Murders have never been linked to anti-climatic or lame secrets.

Sunday Ratings: ABC Ends the Weekend on Top

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Specials, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Desperate Housewives, Everybody Hates Chris, Family Guy, Ratings,
Even though Housewives hit a new series low, the finale of Oprah’s Big Give helped keep ABC in first place for Sunday.
8pm
- Oprah’s Big Give (10 million, 3.2/9 in 18-49) ended on a nice note.
- Big Brother (6.8 million, 2.3/6) was deflated by nearly 4 million.
- Monk (5.7 million, 1.3/4) attracted another 500,000.
- The Simpsons* (5.3 million, 2.5/7) and King of the Hill* (4.5 million, 2.1/5) both dropped off by nearly 1.5 million.
- Everybody Hates Chris (1.3 million, 0.4/1) did the same as last week; Aliens in America* (1.2 million, 0.4/1) was up a tad.

MONDAY (4/21)
- Gossip Girl (CW, 8pm): New episode. “A dethroned Blair musters up the strength to head back to school, and Jenny tries to keep up with the financial demands of the in-crowd.” Mondays are always better when other people are miserable.
- Deal or No Deal (NBC, 8pm): George Bush provides support to a war vet going for the million. After three tours in Iraq, the President figured it was the least he could do.
- How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8:30): If you can’t handle the thought of humming a tune about sandcastles over and over again, this might not be the episode for you.
- The Bachelor: London (ABC, 10pm): “Matt accompanies Amanda, Chelsea, Noelle and Shayne to their hometowns.” Being allowed to live in the U.S. takes more than just a sham marriage. It means faking it with her family too.

Sunday Ratings: ABC Desperate for Viewers

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Desperate Housewives, Everybody Hates Chris, Family Guy, Ratings,
Although it was the most-watched show overall, the return of Desperate Housewives got off to a slow start. CBS’ Masters overrun didn’t help matters either. In the end, the Alphabet network came away with both the viewers and the demos.
8pm
- Big Brother (10.7 million, 2.7/7 in 18-49) benefitted from the golf game.
- Oprah’s Big Give (8.9 million, 2.9/8) suffered a bit in its new time slot.
- The Simpsons (6.9 million, 3.3/9) and King of the Hill (6 million, 2.8/7) had nice gains from last week.
- Monk (5.2 million, 1.1/3) slipped by 500,000.
- Everybody Hates Chris (1.3 million, 0.5/1) and Aliens in America* (1.1 million, 0.4/1) both saw improvements.
