In a recent interview, Patti LaBelle revealed that she, like twenty-plus million other Americans, is an American Idol watcher. “It was so sad,” she said of last Tuesday’s performance episode, referring to many negative comments made by the judges to the show’s female singers.

“I was asked to be a judge before Paula [Abdul] was asked to be a judge, and of course I said no,” she revealed. “Some of the judges, I don’t think they’re qualified to even judge,” she added. When asked to add any names to that comment, LaBelle answered “nevermind.” She finished up her Idol spiel with a few inspiring comments to all the would-be singers of the world.
