The Office Welcomes Back Amy Ryan
I’m happy to report that one of my favorite actresses from 2007 will be returning to one of my favorite television shows next year.
It’s just been announced that Amy Ryan will be hanging around Dunder Mifflin for at least another 5 episodes this fall. At the end of The Office‘s last season, Ryan entered the scene as HR rep Holly Flax, the woman who replaced Toby Flenderson. In the finale, Holly and Michael seemed to make an actual connection. Unfortunately, news of Jan’s surprise pregnancy threw things off course.
This is not the first project that Ryan and Steve Carell have worked on together; the two were both in the charming Dan in Real Life. Dan was just one of three movies that Amy starred in last year that I absolutely loved. The Oscar-nominated actress was also featured in Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead and Gone Baby Gone.
Variety
Those who have seen Gone know this NBC role is quite a remarkable departure from the rough character she played in her breakthrough performance. (BTW - I will still argue to this day that she was robbed of that Academy Award.) And while the actress has become quite in demand - she will also be seen in Clint Eastwood’s The Changeling later this year - she tells Variety the comedic change of pace was quite needed.
“I don’t know what they’re going to do with the character, but as it was written, there’s certainly a lot of potential. It’s a funny thing to enter a show that you’re a great fan of—and it’s nice to tell lighter stories. I love the dark, grittier side of life, but it’s nice to take a break from that, put a skirt on and brush your hair.”
