The Osbournes paved the way for musicians as reality stars, but so far there have been few successes for rich recording families. Many have tried, but few have matched the ratings success of this first musical family. E! hopes to change all that with their new series, Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood.

The series will feature Snoop himself, of course, along with wife Shante and their three kids aged 7, 9 and 11.  The artist’s life will include all sorts of tidbits from the recording industry as the rapper is currently poised to release his new album, Ego Trippin’, in a matter of days.  But with Father Hood, it’s what viewers won’t see that will be interesting.  Surprisingly, this show isn’t going to be about gangsta living and chasing tail; audiences will get a rare look at Dogg in his California hills home as a family man.

He’s been a movie star. He’s been a multi-million dollar recording artist. He’s even been on Comedy Central’s Roast of Flavor Flav. Is Calvin Broadus (Snoop Dogg) now poised to become the next big reality star? For years, his music and persona have attracted a multitude of fans from all walks of life. Snoop is often funny, engaging, and interesting to watch no matter where he’s appearing. My prediction? Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood is going to become a great big hit for E!.

The show is scheduled to premiere December 9 at 10:30 on E!, just after The Girls Next Door.
