Heiress Paris Hilton has narrowed the field down to only two potential BFFs, the number down from eighteen hopefuls who participated in the MTV reality project Paris Hilton is My New BFF. After Tuesday’s double-elimination episode, Paris is left with two choices: Brittany and Vanessa.

And from what I’ve seen so far, she’s stuck between a rocker and a head case.

In a somewhat devious and possibly mean-spirited charade, Paris Hilton eliminated each one of her final four in Wednesday night’s pre-finale episode. In a closed-door meeting, one at a time, she delivered the same speech to each. Two responded with tears during their exit interviews; two seemed rather relieved the whole experience was over. Paris culled these ungrateful girls from her lot and announced to the remaining pair that the show is moving to New York.

Out of a dozen and a half, only two remain. Paris will now choose to award her BFF title to Brittany or Vanessa, a study in opposites. Laid-back Brit aspires to be a famous rocker and has only won a single individual challenge through the course of the show. Vanessa stood out from the first episode as an early favorite to Paris, becoming the first “pet” of the house and a frequent challenge-winner.

Both girls are gorgeous, and both seem to be part of the show for different reasons. Humble Vanessa worships every single thing about Hilton, to the point of sycophantic scariness (seriously, the girl even shook up the usually-unflappable Ryan Seacrest when she appeared on his radio show). Comedic Brit is always entertaining and career-focused, ready to concentrate on making Hollywood a full-time lifestyle. When asked what she would do after her pseudo-elimination, Brit said she’s ready to write an album. Vanessa, awash in tears, admitted she had no idea where to go or what to do with her life when she thought her relationship with Hilton was over.

Will either of these two really be friendly with Hilton once the cameras stop rolling?
