Oprah Snags Sarah Palin Interview

Oprah Winfrey and Sarah Palin

Oh what a difference a year makes.

Two of the biggest female names of 2008 will finally be sitting down for a chat in 2009. Mark your calendars: November 16 will be the date has her first one-on-one with Oprah Winfrey.

Before last November’s elections, Oprah - who publicly endorsed - had been accused of showing favoritism because she chose not to welcome the VP candidate on her show. Winfrey’s reason? She didn’t want to use her program as a political platform. (Although President Obama had been a guest on her program, his appearances came before he decided to run for office.) Unfortunately, Oprah’s explanation didn’t satisfy many of her female fans.

And though the talk show host said she would “love to have [Sarah] on after the campaign is over” (as if she was doing her a favor), Palin - at least initially - opted to take her business elsewhere. This lead to a very interesting comment made by Oprah to Extra last December.

“I said I would be happy to talk to Sarah Palin when the election was over,” Winfrey stated. “I went and tried to talk to Sarah Palin and instead she talked to Greta Van Susteren. She talked to Matt Lauer. She talked to Larry King, but she didn’t talk to me. But maybe she’ll talk to me now that she has a book deal.”

Ah, yes—it’s always those book things that lead people to Oprah’s stage eventually. And the autobiography couldn’t come at a better time either. The interview is not only scheduled one day before Going Rogue: An American Life hits shelves, it’s also scheduled smack in the middle of sweeps. So it looks like both women will come out winners now.
