Mario Lopez Becomes New Host of Extra

Even though Katie Holmes helped push him out of his Broadway gig, Mario Lopez is definitely not hurting for another job.
Today, the execs at Extra! announced that the Dancing with the Stars competitor will now become the full-time host of the entertainment program. The show’s current weekend co-host and correspondent will take over for Mark McGrath and Dayna Devon starting this fall.
According to the New York Post, the Season 15 shakeup was ordered to help boost ratings. Coincidentally, it’s also being reported that McGrath will be leaving his three-year gig to work on a new Sugar Ray album. But whether the chicken came before the egg is unclear. As for Devon, the show’s permanent anchor since 2003 will stay on as a special correspondent. That’s right - she’s being demoted. Ouch!

In a statement, the president for Telepictures Productions said Lopez “has established himself as a highly engaging, likable and sought-after host and personality.” Uhh - is she really sure about the likability issue? Has he not proven to be just as potentially sleazy as The Insider‘s Pat O’Brien?
Those who are still fans of Mario can find the 34-year-old taking over the reins on September 15.
