Leno vs. O’Brien: Let the Ratings Decide
This summer is historic in television history: it’s the lowest-rated summer on record for The Tonight Show, which was hosted by Conan O’Brien this time last year.
Conan enjoyed the coveted hosting gig for only seven months before NBC made the well-publicized decision to replace him with Jay Leno … the host O’Brien formerly replaced.
Jay Leno is currently pulling in about 3.8 million viewers per episode, only 1 million of which are in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic. But, though he may not be beating O’Brien in ratings, Leno is still getting more viewers than his late-night rival David Letterman - by about 22 percent.
