Keith Urban's all-female household prepared him well for American Idol.

The 45-year-old singer - who sits in between warring pop divas Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey on the panel of the singing competition - revealed that living in a "literal oestrogen nest" with wife Nicole Kidman and their two daughters, Sunday Rose, four, and Faith, two, helped him handle the on-set antics between his fellow judges.

When asked how he copes with Mariah and Nicki while on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, his Hollywood starlet wife quipped, "A four year old and a two year old and a wife, a lot of girls in our household."

Keith added, "A literal estrogen nest is where I live."

Despite the drama between the "Triumphant" singer and the "Starships" hitmaker, Nicole admitted her husband loves working on the reality singing show - which is also judged by Randy Jackson - and gets along well with his colleagues. "He adores [Mariah and Nicki], actually. He actually always comes and says he loves doing [the show] and he's used to it. He likes strong personalities," she said.

It looks as though there will be harmony on the Idol set, however, as Keith reports that things have calmed down between his co-judges: "Absolutely, yeah [it's calmed down]. I think the live show's going to be a blast."
