Jason Castro’s American Idol Experience

Jason Castro

Clouds of controversy surrounded Jason Castro’s last week on . From Paula’s flub to Castro’s comments to Entertainment Weekly, the dreadlocked dude gave plenty of Idol watchers plenty to talk about. Recently, Castro sat down again with EW to set the record straight.

Before his Idol elimination, commented to an EW reporter that he was feeling ready to go home. This led, naturally, to angry comments and emails from readers who lambasted the writer of the piece. While Castro did make the comment, his words weren’t as serious as some might have believed. “That day I was in a bad mood,” Jason explained. “I was frustrated with a lot of things.”

But Castro’s pre-elimination interview comment wasn’t the only controversy of the night. As Jason stood next to host after his first Tuesday performance, he mouthed words which looked like “don’t vote.” Did he? “What I said was, ‘Vote. Vote.’ I said it twice trying to emphasize it,” Castro clarified. “I did not want to go home. But at the same time, now that it happened, I’m kind of glad. It all worked out like it was supposed to.”

So what about Castro’s second Tuesday performance of Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man”? How could anyone forget the words to that song? “You know, that day I was just scattered,” Jason explained. “I couldn’t believe I forgot those words.” But Castro doesn’t waste a lot of time on regretting or looking back. “It happened for a reason. I think I’m right where I’m supposed to be,” he optimistically said.

On ’s flub, where the judge critiqued Jason’s performance before it happened, Castro expressed no anger. “I didn’t know what was going on. I was so confused,” he admitted. “It was too funny. But it was an honest mistake.” The real question is, did it affect the performance which followed? “It might have a little. I really don’t remember.”

As for his future plans, Castro plans to move to L.A. for a while. From there, he’s going with the flow to see what happens. The dreadlocked, dew-eyed cutie managed to win Idol fans with his soft singing and sweet expression…can the adoration of the nation really be that far behind?
