After months of waiting, Kara DioGuardi has finally received the answer she’s been wanting to hear: She won’t be returning to American Idol.
Although the decision comes as no surprise, it’s taken some time for it to be official. In fact, Kara - who supposedly tried to quit two months ago - has been waiting just like everybody else to learn the news.
“Would you believe, that she did not hear, and still has not heard anything?” DioGuardi’s father said earlier this month about rumors she had been canned. “Her disappointment is that that’s the way she’s being treated and she feels that’s not proper.”

“I felt like I won the lottery when I joined American Idol two years ago, but I feel like now is the best time to leave Idol,” DioGuardi said in a statement about her departure. “I am very proud to have been associated with American Idol – it has truly been an amazing experience. I am grateful to FOX, FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment, as well as the cast, crew and contestants, for all they have given to me. I look forward to my next challenge, and want to thank everyone who has supported me. All the best to everyone on Season 10!”
One familiar face will be sticking with program though. According to E! Online, Randy Jackson will remain a fixture on the program.
Meanwhile, it appears Jennifer Lopez’s demands won’t keep her from joining Idol. TMZ claims the singer/actress is nearly done finalizing her deal.
