Gotye Slams the Glee Version of His Hit
Gotye has slammed the Glee version of his hit "Somebody That I Used to Know."
The Australian singer and multi-instrumentalist's track was featured on a the show earlier this month, but he was less than impressed with the results: "They did such a faithful arrangement of the instrumentals but the vocals were that pop Glee style, ultra-dry, sounded pretty tuned and the rock has no real sense, like it's playing to you from a cardboard box," he told Australia's The Sunday Mail.
In another interview, the musician - real name Wally de Backer - said, "It made it sound dinky and wrong."
The version of the track which appeared in Glee was performed by Darren Criss and Matt Bomer. "Somebody That I Used to Know" has been a huge hit worldwide, topping the charts in 17 countries, and the musician admitted he finds the success of the track - which he recorded in a home studio on a tiny budget - is "surreal."
"I wrote the song and everything else has been a series of surprises. In a way, after you've made a record, you've made it and everything else that happens feels like you are a bystander. It is kind of surreal."
Gotye is one of only four Australian acts to top the US Billboard chart -- alongside INXS, Men at Work and Savage Garden.
