Glee: Gwyneth Sings, Lynch Shines, the Plot Thickens
Didn’t like Tuesday’s episode of Glee? Well, Forget You. Many fans are still squealing with delight after Gwyneth Paltrow lit up the halls (and stage) of William McKinley High, kicking off the episode with the fun version of the Cee Lo Green song viewable in the video above.
Paltrow is Holly Holliday, the new substitute teacher hired to take over Will Schuester’s Spanish class. Shue (Matthew Morrison) and Principal Figgins (Iqbal Thera) became ill with a virus being spread around school, which sent them both to bed and put Coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) in charge. Cue the scary music.

Acting principal Sue’s first order of business was to inform Coach Bieste (Dot-Marie Jones) that she’s officially disbanding the football team … a decision she was forced to re-think when Bieste demanded to know whom the Cheerios would cheer with no football players around. Sue quickly went on to Plan B -- and fired Mr. Schuester instead. Cue the cries of dismay.
Meanwhile, Shue was stuck at home in bed with his ex-wife Terry (Jessalyn Gilsig). She seduced him with hot soup, the classic musical Singin’ in the Rain and Vicks VapoRub. How could any man resist? So, they slept together.
Kurt (Chris Colfer) and the rest of the club was on the verge of being terrorized by Rachel Berry (Lea Michele), so he quickly approached the pretty new sub about taking over in Shue’s absense. Miss Holliday brought new life and fun into the club, winning the hearts of the kids -- and even Sue’s friendship -- with ease. But when Mercedes (Amber Riley) instigated a tater tot rebellion brought on by Sue’s tough stance on lunchroom food, everything sort of fell apart.
Holly admitted to Will that she feels like a terrible teacher and decided to resign from his job (which she was awarded when he was fired). Compelled by pleas from New Directions and her staffing needs, Sue hired Schue back to his old job. Here's the scary part: Sue is enjoying the new job. Because of her healthy lunches and iron-fisted rule over William McKinley, she's been given the principal job permanently, or so she says. A Sue regime sounds delicious ... for the kids who aren't in New Directions, anyway.
Mr. Schue celebrated his newfound friendship with the quirky sub by inviting her to join the club in a “Singin’ in the Rain”/"Umbrella" mashup that was fantastic … and we’re aching for more. Kurt’s friendship with Blaine (Darren Criss) is progressing nicely, the unnamed football player is still unapologetically in the closet, Mercedes is looking for love … and Paltrow is a fabulous new, short-term addition to the show. We're ready for next week!
