Emergency! Reno 911! Canceled!
Time for tears. Cable’s favorite gang of bumbling cops is going off the air. Comedy Central has canceled the largely improvisational Reno 911!, truly one of the funniest shows ever to grace the small screen.
“Won’t be wearing the shorts again,” co-creator and star Thomas Lennon tweeted to fans. “Reno 911! was canceled at 1:30 pm today.”
The series recently finished airing its sixth season, which marked heavy casting changes for the first time in show history. New bits and new faces might have been a death knell for the show, which surprisingly (and still inexplicably) dumped three leading cast members last year.
Reno 911! was a Keystone Cops-type comedy set to a Cops documentary wherein cast members often talked to cameras. It was created by former members of the series The State and had very little scripted dialogue. It will be sorely missed.
