Courteney Cox Doubts Friends Movie Will Happen
Courteney Cox-Arquette, best known for playing Monica Gellar on Friends, says she would be up for reprising the role but is unsure it could work.
“I don’t think it’s going to happen. Would series creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman want to write it? Because they’d have to be involved,” the 45-year-old said. “I don’t know… a lot of things would have to break just right for it to work. But we’ve daydreamed about it.”
The Cougar Town star also confesses the setting would be limited, unlike fellow TV show-to-movie Sex and the City.
“I wish we could do that with Friends. The thing is, the characters from Sex and the City hopped all over Manhattan. On Friends we were always stuck in the apartment and that coffee house,” Cox explained to the Los Angeles Times.

Previously it had been claimed that a big-screen version of the comedy was close to fruition, with James Michael Tyler - who played coffee house stalwart Gunther - suggesting everyone was ready for a film. “Friends: The Movie is definitely on. I still keep in touch with a lot of the cast and they say they are really keen,” he stated.
Assuming they don’t create any new memories, which old one does Cox love the most? “Off the top of my head, I’d say when Monica proposed to Chandler (Matthew Perry),” she recalled. “There’s like 10,000 candles lit in the apartment and she gets down on one knee and starts sobbing. ‘There’s a reason why girls don’t do this!’ That was a big scene to me, playing the heavy emotion of that.”
