Chloe Sevigny Worried About Playing a Transsexual
Chloe Sevigny was worried fans would be "angry" at her for playing a transsexual.
The 37-year-old actress plays Mia, a pre-op transgender hitman, in TV series Hit & Miss, and she was concerned that she wouldn't be able to do the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community justice in the role.
"I was worried people would be angry that they didn't cast a real person who was transitioning. I asked why they didn't, and the producers said they didn't find the right person. It's a big responsibility toward that community, and I wanted to do them right."
Despite her concerns about taking on the part, Chloe insists she knew the role was perfect for her as soon as she started reading the script. "Who doesn't love a challenge? My manager called me and said, 'I got some scripts today, and they're f***ing crazy. I've never read anything like them, and I kinda think you're going to be into it.' A little way into reading the first script, I knew I was in."
But Chloe - who has previously starred in psychological thriller The Killing Room and mystery film Zodiac on the big screen - hit out at Hollywood for "not liking" her, and insists that is the reason she is cast in "seemingly difficult movies." In an interview with Out magazine, she added, "Hollywood does not know what to do with me. They do not like me. That's why I end up in these seemingly difficult movies. That's what is offered to me, and I need to make a living."
