Casting Corner: Mildred Pierce, My Boys and More

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

Mildred Pierce: HBO has rounded up a few more key players for its upcoming adaptation of the 1941 novel. The miniseries - which already boasts Kate Winslet as the title character - will also feature Evan Rachel Wood (The Wrestler) as Mildred’s daughter, Veda, and Guy Pearce (The Hurt Locker) as Monty Beragon, Mildred’s love interest. Filming on the five-parter will begin next month.

The Middle: Betty White‘s hot streak continues. Just recently, the Golden Girl landed herself a Saturday Night Live gig. Now, she’s nabbed a part on the ABC comedy. In the May season finale, Brick will have to answer to White’s librarian character about some overdue books.

How I Met Your Mother: I never thought Arianna Huffington would be included in the same category as Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez - but there’s always a first. On May 10, The Huffington Post‘s co-founder will appear as herself at a party Ted, Barney, Marshall, and Lily attend. No word on whether she’ll have any personal time with Stinson.

My Boys: The TBS comedy will soon be adding a new girl to the cast. Rachael Harris (Notes from the Underbelly) will be joining the program when it returns this summer. Harris will enter the scene sometime mid-season as Marcia, a neighbor and love interest of Mike’s. Season 4 debuts on July 25.

Leverage: Who knew there were perks to being George Clooney’s girlfriend? Elisabetta Canalis, best known for being the Oscar winner’s current piece of arm candy, has been offered a part on the TNT drama. The real-life Italian actress and TV presenter will guest as a woman appropriately known as “The Italian.” The mysterious beauty will be around for five episodes.

The Good Wife: Chris Noth’s legal team has just recruited a member from Bon Temps, Louisiana. True Blood‘s Carrie Preston (a.k.a. Arlene) has just been cast in several episodes as Elsbeth Mann. No word what this could possibly mean - if anything - for her HBO persona.
