America’s Next Top Model: Cycle 8: The Girl Who Blames The Taxi Driver

After Jael was sent packing from Down Under, Renee made a shocking confession. She said she would actually miss Jael. Not so shocking? She managed to find a new person to hate: Brittany. Renee (and anyone watching ANTM) was frustrated that the red-head had used her supposed short-term memory issue as a crutch.
The next day the ladies met up with reps from a local modeling agency. It was time for their ‘go-see’ challenge of the season. The models would have to ‘go’ on as many job interviews as possible so that they could be ‘seen’. Those who did not make it back to the agency in the alloted time would automatically be disqualified. Before departing the girls were told that they would be critiqued on three different aspects: their personality, their portfolio and their runway walk.

As expected, each girl approached their interviews differently. Renee played the ‘mother’ card and inserted photos of her son into her portfolio. She was hoping to bond with a new mother at one of her meetings. Dionne tried to be playful and continually asked if she could keep the clothes she had been modeling (for the record: some did give articles of clothing to her). Meanwhile, Brittany equated being professional to being silent.
In the end only Jaslene, Dionne and Renee managed to return to the modeling agency on time. Although Natasha narrowly missed the mark by two minutes, she took the disappointment with grace. Then there was my girl, Brittany. Not only did she blame her cab driver for making her late (it was actually her inability to read a single direction…or street number…or figure out an elevator), but she screamed and moaned so loudly she disrupted the taping inside the agency.
Fortunately, the model reps were able to get past the whining to announce the winner of the challenge. The go-sees thought that Renee had a great body but felt she had a tendency to look hard-edged. Dionne impressed the critics with her personality but had problems with her posture. Natasha came off as too sexual and flirtatious while Brittany lacked any ability to walk a straight line. But Jaslene was the perfect package. The judges really liked her body AND her walk. For this—she was granted her first challenge win. As her reward, she got to take another model (Dionne) to the top of Sydney’s Harbor Bridge for a photo shoot.
For the main shoot of the week, the ladies had to sport their bikini bods for two different magazines: one geared towards women, the other aimed at men. In both cases, the girls were paired with male models. Miss Tyra Banks cashed in her yearly special guest photographer card and assisted the girls on their ‘female’ shoot of the day.
Dionne claimed to feel comfortable but had a hard time differentiating between looking sexy and looking mean. Jaslene initially had a hard time connecting but eventually managed to start relaxing. Natasha retreated to her infamous ‘turtle’ pose and threatened to lose her neck. Brittany came off a bit nervous but pulled off one of her sexiest shoots. Lastly, Renee found a way to look natural despite standing in freezing water.
When all was said and done, Jaslene was the big winner once again. The judges loved her great eye contact—the type of contact that draws men in. She also showed great versatility between her two different shoots.
The most water-logged of the week were Dionne and Brittany. All of the go-sees loved Dionne’s personality, but the judges were not pleased with her ‘mean’ photographs. On the flip side, the judges always loved Brittany’s photos but were having problems with her persona. Not one go-see was willing to hire her. This was a first in the history of ANTM.
The lesson of the week? It doesn’t matter how pretty you are—- if no one likes you, no one likes you. LOSER: Brittany.
