Rejected American Idol contestant Ian Benardo doesn’t have a prayer of getting $300 million from the show, though he recently filed a lawsuit asking for this staggering sum. We’re pretty sure Benardo has filed suit more for publicity than for money…so we’re going to give it to him.
If you don’t know who Ian Benardo is, it’s probably because you didn’t watch the American Idol finale spectacular which aired in May. Benardo turned an otherwise average stage show into a circus when he ripped the microphone out of the hands of comedian Dane Cook and proceeded to scream out his agenda to the masses.

Benardo recently filed a claim through the New York State Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, claiming that he was personally threatened by Dane Cook following the live stage drama. Benardo claims that a producer with Idol told him that Cook wanted to “shove this mic up your [expletive deleted], but you would like it.” Benardo also says that he was discriminated against by Idol as early as 2006 when he first auditioned for the show, receiving instructions to “gay it up” during his session. He claims that he received similar instructions when he was invited to the 2010 live finale, and this was the catalyst for his scene-stealing moment on stage.
The reason he wants $300 million from the show? Pain and suffering, of course. Benardo said he’s been emotionally injured by Idol, and lost employment opportunities as a result.
In an attempt to learn more of the story, TMZ has reportedly tried contacting both Dane Cook and American Idol…but the calls haven’t been returned.
