90210 Cast

It’s common for new shows to submit DVDs to various critics and other media professionals, giving them the chance to review and sound off on the new series to drum up even more expectation and hype. One of the most anticipated new shows of the season is undoubtedly , the long overdue spin-off to the popular Beverly Hills, 90210. But no one will be getting any peek at this new show - the CW is keeping everything under wraps.

Why?

A statement was issued by the network on Monday, calling this a “strategic marketing decision not to screen 90210 for any media in advance of its premiere.” In the past, such ploys have often been associated with show that are doomed to failure - the networks don’t want any negative criticism to kill the series before it even begins.

“We’re not hiding anything - simply keeping a lid on 90210 until 9.02,” the statement continued.

Really, they needn’t bother. Even if the show is doomed to failure, it will no doubt enjoy one of the biggest premieres the CW has ever seen. People will tune in out of sheer curiosity alone - I’m practically foaming at the mouth for my chance to critique the new and returning cast members. Would I miss the premiere because of bad press, negative reviews or even a serious medical problem? Hell, no - and I don’t think I’m alone in that sentiment.

But today the blogs and entertainment sites are alive with speculation - if the is hiding their show, it must be because it’s trash. But in a way, wasn’t the first 90210 a little trashy, too? I mean, who would have ever thought an entire show dedicated to spoiled rich kids would become a lasting cultural phenomenon? The incessant love triangles, the will-they-or-won’t-they romances, the break ups and the hook ups….ten years of the same smut, and still we love Beverly Hills, 90210. If the CW can get their stuff together enough to give us a show that’s decently easy to follow and filled with gorgeous people, they’ll no doubt be able to squeeze three seasons out of these strengths alone.

No need to keep anything under wraps with 90210. I have a feeling we’re all set on a course we couldn’t change if we wanted to…and we don’t. If you’d like a glimpse of what the series has in store, just check out the video below:
