90210 Season Three Premiere: Worth the Wait?
Summer’s over, and the West Bev kids have returned to school for their senior year. This was the plot of The CW’s 90210 Season 3 premiere, sensibly titled “Senior Year, Baby.” (Watch the first two minutes of the video to hear that line get repeated way too many times).
But did the episode bring all the drama fans expected? Well, there was a natural disaster, a life-altering injury and a rape flashback…and that was just the first ten minutes. The fatal car crash came a few scenes later.
The show is clearly setting up several interesting stories. Naomi Clark (AnnaLynne McCord) has been for ever altered by sexual abuse, Annie Wilson (Shenae Grimes) has admitted her crime to the world and Dixon Wilson (Tristan Wilds) is on the verge of becoming part of a love square involving both Ivy and Laurel Cooper (daughter and mom on the show, Gillian Zinser and Laura Linney in reality). Adrianna Tate-Duncan (Jessica Lowndes), meanwhile, is prepared to fight for her music career - even if that means breaking a few morals.
So far, only one new face. The actor’s name is Zachary Ray Sherman, the character is Jasper Herman and he’s almost uncomfortably good-looking. Ivy’s starting to crush on him, Dixon’s totally hating him and Laurel Cooper is having sexual relations with him. Already, he’s one of the more interesting guys on the show.
But is it enough to keep 90210 on the air for a fourth season? According to the ratings, the Season 3 premiere was way down from the Season 2 premiere (31%), but at least the ratings were up from the dismal low they hit last May (20%), so there may be some hope yet.
