Friday Ratings: Tight Race for Few Viewers

Learning how to spell g-u-e-r-d-o-n was about the most exciting thing that happened to viewers on Friday evening. By night’s end, CBS was a winner in the viewers while NBC was tops in the demos.
8pm
- Ghost Whisperer* (1.4/6 in 18-49) haunted 5.7 million.
- ABC‘s coverage of the Scripps National Spelling Bee (1.1/4) had 4.6 million biting their nails.
- Most Outrageous Moments* (4.4 million, 1.1/5) was off track by 500,000.
- Friday Night Smackdown (3.7 million, 1.1/4) roped in 400,000 more.
- FOX‘s Little Black Book (2.5 million, 0.9/3) saw 1.5 million less than last week’s movie.

- Dateline (6.34 million, 1.7/6 in 18-49) had the night’s best numbers.
- A 2-hour Numb3rs* block (1.4/5) averaged 6.25 million.
10pm
- 20/20 (5.5 million, 1.6/5 in 18-49) picked up 700,000 since last Friday.

Has the spelling bee always been broadcast on ABC? I always thought it was on ESPN in previous years, but perhaps more people are watching it than before—it obviously did well in the ratings which would have surprised me, but I guess it is only up against repeats of other shows!
