Even Mel’s best attempt at an apology couldn’t smooth the waters enough to keep the series afloat. For those living in a bubble—or just disinterested in entertainment news—Gibson was arrested on suspicion of a DUI early Friday morning. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he mouthed off at the arresting officer, spouting anti-Semitic remarks. He made a public apology on Saturday, stating that he has entered rehab to treat his alcoholism. An ABC spokeswoman said that they canceled the project because they had not seen a first draft of a script in two years, but made no mention of Gibson’s incident.
