Fig Cap: Kobe is REALLY excited that I chose him… and apparently the other dude too.
So, I’m watching The Professional starring Jean Reno and Natalie Portman as I write this… kick butt movie. However, aside from the great action scenes and brilliant Gary Oldman performance, there just isn’t something right about the relationship between Leon and Mathilda. But, you know what it’s just a movie and I love it no matter what. I sort of feel the same about Kobe Bryant - despite any moral apprehension I might have, it’s just fantasy basketball and I love the stats that Bryant gives me.
I guess this makes me a Kobephiliac.

Round 1, Pick 1: LeBron James
The crew from Dropping Dimes is back this summer like the Transformers with another Fantasy Draft Blog! We promise not to change the draft blog too much from the original format, unlike Spielberg changing Soundwave for the Transformers movie. What is up with that? This year we agreed on a writing rotation about our picks. The rotation will be Ron, Dennis, Alvin, and Sarge. And with the first overall pick and after watching the NBA playoffs this year my choice was easy - LeBron James.

The National league got off to the better start in this year’s MLB All Star Game, but the American League had the last laugh coming away with the victory. The final score was 5-4, with Ichiro hitting the first ever inside the park home run in the All Star Game history. Home Runs were also hit by Victor Martinez, Carl Crawford, and Alfonso Soriano. Ken Griffey Jr. also had the first two runs batted in for the National league. The win went to Josh Beckett, and the loss went to San Diego Padres pitcher Chris Young. Barry bonds was lifted from left field in the fourth inning after going 0-2. He predicted that he would go hitless, because of the part he attended the night before.
“Forgive me when I go 0-for-5. The party was more fun,” Bonds said before Tuesday night’s All-Star game. “I don’t stay up past 11 or 12 ‘cause I get up and train every morning.”
However he still did claim to have a great night at the All Star Game.
“I’m lost for words with it,” Bonds said. “There’s too many emotions to be able to explain it. This is my family who I grew up with for a lot of years. All I can do is say, ‘thank you.”

Here’s hoping your 7/7/07 day was full of luck…because Friday the 13th is just around the corner! Whether you partied it up by attending a wedding, or you sat at home watching the Live Earth concert, here’s hoping you are now for some one-on-one action today! KG is still in Minnesota (for now) but he is raring to go.
On a separate note, our second annual mock draft blog is set to launch later this week. We hope that by starting a month earlier than last year, we will be able to crank out at least a couple more rounds by the time October rolls around.

Eleven games. Thats how long it took for the Arizona Diamondbacks to score 30 runs overall. Today Joe Mauer and the Minnesota Twins scored 30 runs in two games. In game one of the doubleheader phenom catcher Joe Mauer had four hits and five RBI’s. In game two reigning AL MVP Justin Morneau hit three home runs. These two losses pushed the White Sox 13 games behind first place in their division. Game one ended with a football score of 20-14, and in game two the Twins blanked the White Sox with a score of 12-0. Surprisingly, normally hot-headed manager Ozzie Guillen was calm following these two losses.
“It was hard to watch, hard to feel that way,” Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen said. “You can do nothing about it.”

Detroit Tigers infielder Neifi Perez was suspended for 25 games on Friday for testing positive for a banned stimulant. Perez, a journeyman at this point in his career, was hitting .172 with a home run and six RBI’s. Perez will be eligible to return on August 4th vs. the Chicago White Sox, the suspension takes place immediately. At this point in 2007, 15 players have already been suspended for a positive drug test. Perez has already played for the Kansas City Royals, San Francisco Giants, and the Chicago Cubs.

After an abysmal series with the Colorado Rockies, the New York Mets promptly rebounded with a victory over the Houston Astros. The Mets defeated the Astros 6-2. Mets starter John Maine went 7 2/3 innings struck out nine batters, and gave up only two runs and two walks. In the ninth inning Carlos Beltran hit a home run to put the game out of reach. Astros pitcher Jason Jennings gave up nine hits and five runs, all of them earned. Carlos Delgado who’s been having a down year broke out tonight with a four hit night, with an RBI. ![Madden 08 Wii Family Play controls]({filedir_8}Family_Play_010.jpg)
Have you ever found yourself wanting to play a sports game, but were overwhelmed when trying to take in all of the complex controls? Well, EA Sports is looking to solve that problem with the introduction of a new feature, called Family Play, which will debut in this year’s Wii versions of Madden NFL 08, NBA Live 08, and FIFA Soccer 08. Gamers suing the Family Play setup need only use the Wii remote to play (as opposed to both the remote and Nunchuk attachment), and will only be in control of the major aspects of the game – shooting, passing, etc. The rest is controlled by the computer, allowing for anyone to dive in and focus on the real action without having to worry about the nuances of the game.

Bonds Now Four Home Runs Away From Record

Last night in a game against the Cincinnati Reds Barry Bonds hit lifetime home run number 751, making himself just four home runs away from the alltime record of 755 home runs. The home run came against pitcher Aaron Harang. With an 0-2 count Harang threw a fastball right down the pipe, which proved to be a mistake. However, Harang had no regrets about how he pitched Bonds in the at bat.
“You can’t be scared to go after guys like that, especially when there’s nobody on or it’s early in the game,” Harang said. “That’s what I tried to do with the third one, and he was right on it.”

Joey Chestnut Dethrones Kobayashi In Hot Dog Eating Contest

Perhaps the only story to gather more publicity than Barry Bonds hitting home run number 751 is the 2007 Nathan Hot Dog eating contest! This year the usually dominant Takeru Kobayashi fell victim to the American Joey Chestnut. Chestnut devoured 66 frankfurters in 12 minutes. Kobayashi was not far behind, eating 63 frankfurters in 12 minutes. Apparentley Kobayashi’s jaw injury wasn’t too much of a handicap, as he broke his previous record of 53 hot dogs in 12 minutes. After taking home the title for six consecutive years, Chestnut was prepared this year to end Kobayashi’s reign.
“This title’s been held by Kobayashi for six years, so it’s about time it came home,” said Chestnut, holding an American flag in his arms. “I knew going into this contest that Kobayashi was going to give 100 percent.”
