I apologize for the delay folks. Sometimes, the personal life takes over for a bit – and some things are just unavoidable. Now it’s back to the grind of getting this mock draft rolling. With the first three rounds, “Team Nine” has selected Dwyane Wade, Andre Iguodala and Jermaine O’Neal. This gives an incredibly talented base at both guard positions as well as some flexibility to play Iggy at the three. Jermaine O’Neal’s flexibility is welcomed, as well as his abilities to notch 20 and 10 a night. While the health issues are definitely prevalent with this squad, I have no issues in adding some more scoring with some long-range talent and highlight reels mixed in for good measure. With a new home and bright outlook for this season, I’m going with…

The Fig Cap: You were taken 12 picks before me? And you played for Team USA first? Come here and taste some pain!
Nothing against Deron, but we like this guy. It sure got old fast but we were one of the first pronouncing “Roy for ROY” last year. This year? Look out.

The Fig Cap: Boom Dizzle My P-Nizzle!
Anyone remember Special Ed? No, not as in classes, but as in the rapper from the late 80’s/early 90’s. “I Got It Made,” “I’m The Magnificent,” “Come On, Let’s Move It.” Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Seriously, whenever I see Martin with his fresh cut fade, I always think of Special Ed. To paraphrase Mars Blackmon, “It’s gotta be the cut.” Anyway, the aforementioned three songs I mentioned all apply to Martin, appropriately enough. He’s certainly got it made now after signing a five-year deal with the Sacramento Kings. Martin has played magnificently when given the playing time (sorry, got to pop my collar right now knowing I called Martin’s crazy game when Peja Stojakovic was hurt a couple of seasons ago; although I’m still waiting for Francisco Garcia to get his well-deserved burn) as last season proved. And now with his 2006-07 performance, he moves it (as in his draft stock) up all the way to the fourth round of this mock draft.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, Special Kev.

Pitcher turned outfielder turned feel good story Rick Ankiel was linked to a year long prescription to HGH on Thursday. This alleged prescriptipn took place during 2004, a year before MLB banned the substance from the game. That detail may save him from a suspension or any punishment from the league whatsoever. Cardinals general manager Walt Jocketty said that if Ankiel did indeed take HGH for a year it would be, “Very tragic.”

Quick, do you know who the Fifth Beatle was ? The answer is a little more complicated depending if you consider the fifth Beatle being a musical or non-musical contributor. Some may say Pete Best, Stuart Sutcliffe, Brian Epstein or George Martin as being the “Fifth Beatle”. All right something a little easier, do you know which NBA player led his team in scoring and was one of six shooting guards that averaged both four rebounds and assists per game? Need a hint? His initials are J.J. If you guessed Joe Johnson then you are correct (of course, reading this post about J.J. should have been a clue!). Johnson has quietly put up solid numbers since joining Atlanta as a free agent.

In fantasy hoops, you can never have too many quality big men. With Yao Ming and Pau Gasol already lacing them up for this team, I’m going to seal the deal on the front court and select on the biggest up-and-comers in the league:
3.12 Al Jefferson, PF/C
Minnesota Timberwolves

This was the first pick that drew some grumblings behind the scenes. Third round? “It seems a bit early, but what do I know,” wrote one of our resident experts in an e-mail. “I know what you are doing, BUT…” well, I can understand. But hey, the guy was an all-star. And a late season injury that ended his season on April 1st killed any momentum his great year would have garnered heading into the summer.

The Mets suffered an embarrasing 4 game sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies, but are off to a good start to turn their losing ways around. They defeated the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field tonight, to put themselves 5.5 games ahead of the Bravos, with there still being a 2 game difference between them and the Phils. the game was won 7-1 with help from a 3 run double from Marlon Anderson and Home Runs from Jose Reyes and Carlos Delgado. Oh and 7 innings of one run baseball from starting pitcher John Maine doesn’t hurt.
“There’s no panic,” says David Wright. “Everybody is calm in here. We’ve lost four games in a row before. ... People say this is a must-win game and all that. We’re the ones in the driver’s seat. We have to remember that.”

The Fig Cap: “They say it’s all in the wrist, well, it doesn’t hurt to have some guns for biceps.”
Living in the New York City area, you experience many things that are dirty, smelly, bumpy, and must bring major disturbances to the Force. There aren’t too many things that go smoothly around these parts, my “game” back when I was single can be a testament to that. Yeah, I’ve had my fair share of slaps across the face, looks of pure distaste, and mocking giggles thrown my way. Now what does Michael Redd have to do with my former dating life?
Well, Redd’s stroke is the complete opposite of it… smooth.
