Almost immediately after the champagne bottle popped in Colorado, high profile baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez and super agent Scott Boras announced that A-Rod would opt out of his contract with the New York Yankees, ending his career in this Bronx. However, baseball’s chief operating officer Bob Dupuy attested to the timing of the announcement.
“We were very disappointed that Scott Boras would try to upstage our premier baseball event of the season with his announcement, there was no reason to make an announcement last night other than to try to put his selfish interests and that of one individual player above the overall good of the game, last night and today belong to the Boston Red Sox, who should be celebrated for their achievement, and to the Colorado Rockies, who made such an unbelievable run to the World Series.”

With a final score of 4-3, the Boston Red Sox ran onto the field in celebration, winning the 2007 World Series. The win went to Jon Lester, and Aaron Cook took the loss in his first start since August 10th in the regular season. The Colorado Rockies were swept 4 games to none, and lost this one despite a stellar 3 inning appearance from their bullpen. Home runs for the Red Sox came from Mike Lowell and Bobby Kielty. Lowell would wind up winning series MVP. Brad Hawpe and Garret Atkins hit home runs in the losing effort from the Rockies.

The Ottawa Senators improved to 9-1 against the New Jersey Devils in the brand new Prudential Center last night. Brian Gionta scored the first and only goal of the night for the Devils in the second period. The goal was made on a deflection. The Senators were solid all around on Saturday night, receiving help from Andrej Meszaros, Mike Fisher, Shean Donovan, and Daniel Alfredsson, all of whom scored goals. Goalie Martin Gerber was rock solid, blocking 31 of 32 attempted shots. Devils goalie Martin Brodeur didn’t have such a good night, blocking 23 of 26 attempted shots. This has not been Brodeur’s best season, allowing 26 goals at this point.

After having one of the most dominant postseasons in Major League history up until the World Series, the Colorado Rockies find themselves in a new position: Down 3 games, struggling to survive. Last night the Boston Red Sox put another beating on the Rockies, winning 10-5. Dice K Matsuzaka not only went 5.1 innings strong, but contributed with a clutch 2 run single in the 3rd inning, to blow the lead wide open and knock out befuddled Colorado journeyman starter Josh Fogg. Jacoby Ellsbury continued his bid to keep Coco Crisp on the bench, with 4 hits and 2 RBI’s. The Rockies last hope will rest on Aaron Cook’s shoulders, who will do battle with Jon Lester tonight in the possibly final game of the World Series.

Marcus Giles is no longer teammates with his older brother, and should have quite a hard time finding a new team this offseason. Giles appeared in 116 games for the San Diego Padres this past season, hitting .229 with four home runs and 39 RBI. The Padres owe Marcus a $500,000 buyout of his $4 million option.

The Fig Cap: “Satten said he doesn’t believe? WHAT?!?!?”
October 30th will soon be upon us when the Portland Trail Blazers, sans Greg Oden, take on the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs led by Tim Duncan. And later on that night, the revamped/revitalized Houston Rockets with their dynamic duo of Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady do battle with Kobe Bryant’s Los Angeles Lakers (as of this writing, anyway; who knows what happens with the Black Mamba with all of these rumors flying around). What else do you need to know about the start of the 2007-08 NBA season?
That’s what The Fantasy Jump Off is all about.

The Dropping Dimes team has come together for its first regular season edition of the weekly rankings. We’ll be here all year, spittin’ straight knowledge and game.
The first week starts Monday in most leagues, with the first NBA games slated on Tuesday. For that reason, it’s a somewhat short schedule that looks a little like this:

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft 2007: Round 6, Pick 11 - Andris Biedrins
Posted by Brandon Haraway Categories: H2H, Pacific Division, Golden State Warriors, Roto, Site Features,
He’s only played 33 minutes all of preseason. He only averaged 21 minutes per game last April. So why is Andris Biedrins such a highly touted commodity? Upside, baby, upside.
These are his only drawbacks. If he starts, he has 10-10 written all over him. Well guess what boys and girls. With that stud Adonal Foyle out of town, only Patrick O’Bryant and Brandan Wright will challenge Al Harrington and him for playing time. Talk about a good situation.

It happens every year - that big offseason trade to turn the fantasy world on its ears. Or does it?
Well, this year it certainly did and in more than one deal. Seattle blew up its roster, Boston revamped theirs, two big-time shooters went down South, and one fat forward is in the Big Apple. All this AND more! So what are the bigger trades of the offseason, and how do they affect how you should be drafting your fantasy team?

The Fantasy Season lurks right around the corner
Will it finish like a nursery rhyme, say Little Jack Horner
Or will it be a nightmare, say Elm Street with Freddy
Especially with the Clippers, save Corey Maggette
Some players will break through, while others will be duds
Drafters will hunt for the former, like a bunch of Elmer Fudds
Some players are all GQ, like D Wade or Kobe
But this round, I’ll go UGLY and draft me Big Z!
