Jason McElwain, a 17-year old senior from Greece Athena High School, scored 20 points in four minutes, including 6 3-pointers. McElwain, who is the team manager, suited up for the teams home finale for a division title. After the Rochester high school team was well ahead in the score, McElwain entered the game. McElwain’s magical night is a heart-warming story considering the hardships he endured, such as not being able to speak until the age of 5. Team coach Jim Johnson said: “It was as touching as any moment I have ever had in sports,”. McElwain was carried off the court by his teammates on their shoulders.

Telfair will serve a two game suspension for violating the leagues firearms policy. The league prohibits players from carrying a firearm while traveling on team or league business. (I can’t believe there has to be a rule like this by the way, it’s called common sense.) Telfair admitted to mistakenly taking his girlfriends bag which had a loaded gun inside last week in Boston. Unfortunately the team was not headed to Philadelphia, this way Telfair could have claimed he brought the gun in exchange for 76er’s tickets.
With Portland trading Ruben Patterson, Telfair and Zach Randolph are the last of the “Jail Blazers” - but management seems to ready to build the team around these guys. The next Portland player I predict to be the next cool thug is back-up center Ha Seung-Jin. Too bad they couldn’t swing a deal for Darko Milicic, because Rasheed Wallace has been quoted saying: “I’m telling you, Darko is a Serbian gangster.” Straight up, fool.
Telfair, who is Stephon Marbury’s cousin, has some other bone-headed relatives; Hassan Gonsalves and Tasheem Ward were involved in the Isiah Thomas sexual harassment scandal, where Gonslaves and Ward were hired and later had to be fired by MSG even though they were “completely unqualified”.

The Eagles, who desperately need to fill the production that Terrell Owens left behind, might look to bring in Pittsburgh Steeler standout WR/ PR Antwaan Randle-El. The Eagles look to make as splash as the rest of the NFC East has caught up to them talent wise after a long run as the elite team in their division. They are also targeting DE John Abraham, of the New York Jets, who is an excellent pass rusher. Abraham who plays outstandingly when he is on the field is questioned at times for not playing through injuries.
Reggie Wayne signed a six-year contract extension that is worth approximately 40 million. The Colts still can use their franchise tag to use on Edgerrin James, but will most likely part ways. Wayne has thrived as the second receiver in the Colts attack, perhaps realizes this is the best situation for him, rather than going to a weaker team where he can be focused on by the opposing defense.
The Colts will invest a day one draft pick on a running back, and will probably have their eye on Jamal Lewis, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens who is now a free agent. The Ravens have confidence in Lewis’ replacement Chester Taylor. DeShaun Foster and reigning MVP Shaun Alexander are also on the market. Even with all these big name running backs entering free agency, unfortunately there really isn’t much a market for them, unless they consider signing with a terrible team. The teams in need of a running back are the Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals, and San Fransisco 49ers. The only enticing places to play are perhaps for the Minnesota Vikings, or Carolina Panthers, if they decide to upgrade over Deshaun Foster.
Philadelphia Sports Fans on 610WIP Are Passionate about Their Team
Posted by Jeff Chan Categories: Editorial, Front Office, NBA, Rumors,
Holy cow, I spent my entire day in the Pennsylvania area today, and was able to catch 610 AM WIP Sports Talk radio for the majority of the day. I am impressed how for the most part Philadelphia fans are not fair-weather fans, and are “four for four” fans - meaning they are die-hard fans of Eagles, 76ers, Flyers, and Phillies. The topic of the day was the blown out of proportion comments of 76ers/Flyers owner Ed Snider. Snider’s comments were something to the affect of: “Hey maybe I should move the team to a city that would support the team”. This comment was obviously made in the heat of the moment, even though it was a mistake to threaten the loyal Philadelphia fans.
The hot buttons were the criticism of 76ers President/GM Billy King and his trade moves, especially obtaining Chris Webber late last season. The fans have been frustrated with the team being stuck in mediocrity since the trip to the NBA Finals when Larry Brown was there coach. 76er fans should be grateful they don’t have the Knicks management running their team to the ground. Snider was interviewed in the mid-afternoon to defend his comments made the night before, and was trying to quell the fans anger. The bottom line is that, all but a handful of teams are under the salary cap, and the current system in which the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement is operating on, it is very difficult to make the necessary changes to make your team from pretender to contender. To all you sports fanatics out there, if your team is struggle, please keep voicing your concerns and disappointment, but remember it is harder than you think to change your team’s fortunes around.
After hearing all the rumors, the deal came to fruition. The Orlando Magic trades away unhappy guard Steve Francis to the New York Knicks for a familiar face in Penny Hardaway and Trevor Ariza. Hardaway, who had a bright start to his career in the mid 90’s playing for the Orlando Magic, will return back to the land of the Magic Kingdom. Magic fans can dust their old Penny Hardaway jerseys off the shelves. The Knicks front office will most likely continue to keep on the phones and try to find a suitor for Jamal Crawford and/or Quentin Richardson. I would not imagine even the most optimistic of Knick fans would see this trade as a move that can turn the teams fortune around, but at least it will be an interesting soap opera, watching how Marbury, Francis, and Jalen Rose share the ball. By not trading away Channing Frye, most of Isiah Thomas’ critics will have to put their sharp tongues on hold for the time being. At least this trade keeps the sexual harassment accusations out of the headlines for Thomas.
The United States team had a disappointing show throughout the entire 2006 Olympics and were official eliminated after losing to Finland 4-3. One of the factors was a lack of team unity, something Mike Modano was very critical about. It seemed as if the team wasn’t on the same page and were traveling constantly to separate hotels, on separate flights, tickets, meals and things of that nature. Fans should have known things were heading the wrong way when they were only to scratch up a tie with the Latvia team.
Jay Mohr is taking his Bob Sugar agent character from Jerry Maguire way too seriously. There is no need to bash the All-Star festivities, and especially the Slam Dunk contest. The Slam Dunk contest used to stink, but ever since Vince Carter joined the fun, it’s been a good event. I think the low point for the slam dunk contest was Brent Barry winning the event on the foul line dunk, seeing as how that was done twice already. Remember last year when Chris Anderson made the slam dunk contest look bad? Where is Chris Anderson now? He got suspended two years for drug abuse even though he was just a first time offender. Conspiracy theorists must unite and memo to all participants of All-Star Weekend, David Stern doesn’t mess around. David Stern wants the white fans to come back. As far as entertainment, we viewers get opera singer Andrea Bocelli performing - say goodbye to the rap stars. C’mon Jay, I’m just messing with you, I loved you in Mafia - but seriously lay off the NBA or else David Stern is going make you pay somewhere, somehow.

Some suggest calling this style of play the North Carolina two-guard disease. It only applied to Michael Jordan and Vince Carter, and it is not as common as Marbury-itis, but at least these guys had some valid excuses. Jordan took some major punishment going to the rack earlier in his career, especially from the Pistons. Those guys purposely funneled him into the hole just to foul the guy. Jordan eventually developed an awesome fade-away shot and the rest is history. Carter had some nagging injuries that made him leery to go to the basket, and admitted he wasn’t playing 100% for the Toronto Raptors. Now he is rejuvenated in New Jersey back to making fantastic dunks and all kinds of circus shots.
This leads me to this question. What happened to Lebron James? Sure he has great stats and the Cavs are doing ok, but wow, he sure is jacking up a lot of outside shots and now isn’t really the passing threat he used to be. James has only been in the league for 2+ seasons, don’t tell me he is already losing some steam in taking it to the hole. I’m sure James is going to turn out just fine. Oh Lebron, by the way, what was up with your Diamond Dallas Page hand signal you were giving out at the all-star game about?
Former Carolina Panther Wide-Receiver Rae Carruth is well-known for being jailed for conspiring to having his pregnant girlfriend killed. Carruth and other famous criminals such as Scott Peterson were the inspiration for the A&E program called Fatal Fathers. Apparently this program premiered in August of 2004, but I just caught it last night on television for the first time. Too bad O.J. Simpson didn’t get convicted as well, they would have made for an unstoppable prison football team.
