Sidney CrosbyThe goal-scoring race is at its peak. Sidney Crosby’s 49 goals has him in a slim one goal lead over two-time defending award winner Alex Ovechkin and Tampa’s young phenom Steven Stamkos. All three have two games left to play. Stamkos has scored almost a quarter of Tampa Bay’s goals and that lack of scoring help has lead Tampa to finish outside of the playoffs. Meanwhile, a spread out attack from the other two clubs has each preparing for the postseason, but it’s been these three individuals who have stolen the spotlight this season.

Miguel CabreraNow that almost every team has had a chance to complete a series and show the nation what they’ve got. It seems like the mystery that can surround Spring Training is ancient history, when really it’s only been five days. That’s the beauty of nationally televised baseball. And not only do these games matter, but managers are playing their top players. There’s nothing like April baseball, and we’re seeing it as good as it gets.

Vernon WellsVernon Wells, Toronto’s highly overpaid All-Star center fielder is already 20 percent of the way to matching his home run total from 2009. With a pair of big bombs against Texas’ Dustin Nippert and Darren Oliver on Wednesday night to go along with his Opening Day blast to ruin Scott Feldman’s start gives him three homers in the first two games of the season. In 158 games last year, he only managed to reach a total of 15.

Tiger WoodsTiger Woods’ return to the sport of gold has been highly anticipated and we can all rest in the knowledge of Woods’ tee time on the first day of The Masters.  On Thursday, Woods will tee up at 1:42pm ET in Augusta, Georgia and will be paired with K.J. Choi and Matt Kuchar.  I hope Choi and Kuchar are ready for the involuntary spotlight.  There are a lot of expectations with Tiger’s return, including him winning the whole thing.  While that would be a great story, there is considerable rust on Wood’s game.  It’ll be amazing if he does even a degree of well considering the scrutiny and personal situations present in his life right now.  But, Woods has proven to up his level of focus when necessary.  Let’s see if he can do so with the most distraction he’s ever faced in his life.

Matt DucheneWith only six days left in the NHL season, there are still four playoff spots yet to be clinched, and a lot more seeds to be finalized. The Eastern Conference is still pretty open, with Montreal, Boston, Philadelhpia, NY Rangers and Atlanta competing for three spots. We know teams one-through-seven in the Western Conference, but that final place will see the toughest competition, as all of Colorado, Calgary, St. Louis and Anaheim compete for it.

Tomas KaberleFour-time All-Star Tomas Kaberle may be playing his last game as a Toronto Maple Leaf in front of the hometown crowd tonight at the Air Canada Centre. The 32-year old Czech made his debut with the Leafs in 1998 after being drafted 204th overall in 1996, and has been one of the mainstays on the team since. His no-trade clause expires after the season, and many are expecting him to be shipped out in favor of draft picks before this year’s Entry Draft, as Toronto is in desperate need of getting some.

Matt StairsMatt Stairs will never retire from baseball. The 42-year old not only has yet to resort to riding out his career as an American League designated hitter, he’s also found a home in San Diego and will see time as both a first baseman and an outfielder. As a Canadian, it was hard enough for Stairs to find his way into the majors, but it seems that it’s been even harder to take him out of them.

Red Sox/Yankees rivalryCould anybody else have started the 2010 MLB season? Florida against Atlanta, or Oakland versus Seattle just wouldn’t have been the same as last night’s Boston and New York matchup. These two teams have created the greatest sporting rivalry of the 21st century, what with the Yankees’ World Series wins in 2000 and 2009, Boston’s in 2004 and 2007, not to mention the “breaking of the curse”. There’s also the seemingly limitless supply of money backing these two giants in a duel to perhaps not outspend each other, but certainly outspend everybody else.
