If you added Juwan, Ju-WonWire to Wire aims to be your waiver wire resource for all of your fantasy basketball needs.  It will dive into playing time trends, injury replacements, and even an occasional category specialist – all of which can be found on a typical waiver wire within your fantasy league at any given time.

The holidays have come and gone, but the NBA continues to keep rolling.  From buzzer-beaters by Leandro Barbosa to Kevin Garnett going off with the old style ball, basketball addicts have had plenty to keep them busy during the time of season that is saturated by NFL “what if” scenarios and college football bowl games.

The last edition of Wire to Wire was nearly created by chance more than choice due to all the huge injuries that had occurred.  This week should prove to be a little different, but first, let’s check out last week’s recommendations…

Nine threes?!? Are you kidding me? Randomly checking box scores, as that’s what fantasy basketball fans tend to do from time to time, I can’t help but post about the game that’s still underway.  The Memphis Grizzlies are currently beating the Golden State Warriors 130-127…with three minutes still remaining in regulation!  If anyone’s able to watch this game, please let me know if they’re playing this game on half of a court or not.

Neither team is exactly shooting lights out, so there’s only one thing that can attribute to such an evening:

No Defense.

(Update: OK, maybe we can attribute it to a few long balls as well…)

DescriptionThe New Year seems as good a time as any to update everyone on the action in our Dropping Dime Experts League. The league is set up as a rotisserie league using the standard nine categories. There are no limits in adding and dropping players and a two day waiting period. Roster changes can only be made on a weekly basis. Compared to other fantasy sites, we seem to back Lebron James more than other experts. So even though none of us here at Dropping Dimes employs LBJ on our squad, we do not mind propping him up because he has his team atop this fantasy league.

The last Man, where did this year go?  In reading the “Year in Reviews” by different columnists across the published world, a few good ones have caught my eye.  A quick recommendation is the Daily Fix – the Wall Street Journal piece that typically contains links to daily sports columns.  Not often to we check out the WSJ for sports information, but these guys are pretty resourceful if you enjoy the same types of discussions that they do.  Well, they’ve laid out the top 10 columns that they found the most memorable.  If you have a few minutes, it’s worth the look!

Now on to some quick hoops thoughts…

To bring a close to 2006, the DroppingDimes crew has compiled the rankings to open up 2007 like Jay-Z used to pop ‘Cris at the 40/40 club.  We won’t give you Ashton Kutcher, Paris Hilton or even Carson Daly (what the hell happened to THAT guy??), but we will give you the edge that you can use next week while your opponents are still nursing hangovers and BCS gambling debt.

Have a safe and enjoyable New Year.  Here are the games played for each team next week…

Sarge's new man-crush: Gerald Green

We’re back from a brief Holiday Hiatus.  I hope you all had a safe and enjoyable weekend.  We all know that the fantasy hoops waiver wires did.  Injuries over the last two weeks have provided us with some very nice options going forward.  First, let’s look back to my last edition to see how those recommendations panned out…

Who, you? Yes, you, Yao!Stat’s All Folks will be a week-to-week stock market look at the standard cumulative categories – points, assists, rebounds, three-pointers made, steals, and blocks.  I’ll be calling out the “bulls” and “bears” in each category, in order to help you assess your portfolio of players on your fantasy basketball team(s) and whether you should sell, hold, and/or diversify your assets.

Note that you won’t always see the superstar player written about in this column, otherwise it would be LeBron James or Steve Nash every week.  So, check out who’s bullish and who’s bearish coming into the week.

Statistics are through December 14th – December 20th.

POINTS

BULLISH

Yao Ming, C, Houston Rockets
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 4 G; 34.8 PPG; 50.9 FG%; 91.2 FT%

Usually, the top scorers are coming from everywhere BUT the center position.  Indeed, the dominating scoring big man in the middle is a dying breed, but Yao Ming refuses to lay down softly and go the way of the Thighmaster.  Face it people, Yao is here to stay unlike the Suzanne Somers product and he is undeniably the best center in the NBA.  In his four games last week, Yao scored no less than 32 points in each contest and was feeling it so much he even attempted a trey from downtown!  He miseed, but that’s about the only shot he’ll ever clang off the rim.  And unlike other players that make a living down in the post, Yao hits his free throws allowing him to accumulate points from the charity stripe.  Obviously, hold on to Yao like your league championship depended on it because it just might.
