After hearing all the rumors, the deal came to fruition. The Orlando Magic trades away unhappy guard Steve Francis to the New York Knicks for a familiar face in Penny Hardaway and Trevor Ariza. Hardaway, who had a bright start to his career in the mid 90’s playing for the Orlando Magic, will return back to the land of the Magic Kingdom. Magic fans can dust their old Penny Hardaway jerseys off the shelves. The Knicks front office will most likely continue to keep on the phones and try to find a suitor for Jamal Crawford and/or Quentin Richardson. I would not imagine even the most optimistic of Knick fans would see this trade as a move that can turn the teams fortune around, but at least it will be an interesting soap opera, watching how Marbury, Francis, and Jalen Rose share the ball. By not trading away Channing Frye, most of Isiah Thomas’ critics will have to put their sharp tongues on hold for the time being. At least this trade keeps the sexual harassment accusations out of the headlines for Thomas.

Darko Milicic so far has drawn some unfavorable Sam Bowie comparisons in his short career, but he may finally have a chance to show what he can do on the basketball courts. The Pistons trade Milicic, and backup PG Carlos Arroyo to the Orlando Magic for a first round pick (top 5 protected in 2007) or an 2008 unrestricted first round pick and C Kelvin Cato. Detroit has activated Lindsey Hunter to assume the backup PG duties.
Yes, fans are already aware of Darko being known as the guy who was drafted after Lebron James and taken ahead of other studs such as Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade. One thing is for sure, NBA fans will now be looking through the box score of Orlando Magic games to check out Milicic’s progress.
The Los Angeles Clippers acquired Vladimir Radmanovic from the SuperSonics for PF Chris Wilcox. This moves strikes me as a message to Clipper fans that they are serious about contending this season. Radmanovic, a free agent after this season is deadly from three-point range shooting at 38% for his career. This move looks like it will absolve the brain freeze Clippers G.M. Elgin Baylor had during the 2002 draft drafting #8 Wilcox and #12 Melvin Ely in the lottery even though they already had Elton Brand as their starting power forward.
On Seattle’s standpoint, with PF Nick Collison recently breaking into the starting lineup and adding Wilcox to the roster, Seattle is probably ready to trade either Reggie Evans or Danny Fortson to straighten out this log-jam at the forward position.
So it is getting to the point in sports, where TV stations are now trading sports announcers? Monday Night Football will next season air on ESPN, and Sunday Night games will move to NBC. When hearing of the MNF team consisting of Joe Theisman, and Pardon the Interruption’s, Tony Kornheiser, Michaels made it clear he did not want to work with Theismann.
NBC gave up quite a bit for Al Michaels services, ESPN will be receiving: a broader access to the Olympics aired on NBC, the rights to re-air NBC coverage, the rights to broadcast the Ryder Cup (golf), Notre Dame football, the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. The final piece that brought this deal together was the rights to a cartoon rabbit named Oswald, who goes back to the Disney/ ESPN family, which somehow over the years Walt Disney lost the rights to. Oswald was a character Disney made back in 1927, prior to Mickey Mouse.
In a somewhat puzzling move by Knicks President Isiah Thomas, the Knicks will receive Jalen Rose and a first round draft pick (via Denver) for Antonio Davis, whose contract will expire following this season. Rose was not a favorite of coach Larry Brown, Brown coached Rose during Brown’s last season in Indiana. Rose’s career did not really blossom until Larry Bird became coach, when Rose finally decided to let go of the idea of being a point guard and just concentrated on scoring. The initial reaction of this move does not look to make much sense for the New York Knicks, by acquiring yet another high priced salary player. Hopefully this leads to another deal or at least an explanation.
Donovan McNabb and Terrell Owens Feuding Again
Posted by Jeff Chan Categories: Athletes, Editorial, NFL, Trades,
When Terrell Owens mentioned the Eagles would be better off with Brett Favre as the quarterback instead of McNabb, McNabb took the high road and didn’t respond back with an insult. As time has progressed, and with all signs pointing to T.O. leaving the Eagles, it looks like now the gloves are off.
McNabb thought Owens’ previous comments could be categorized as “black-on-black crime”. McNabb was quoted saying:
“It was like, it’s unreal,” McNabb said. “That’s like me going out and saying, ‘Hey, if we had Steve Largent. If we had Joe Jurevicius. It was definitely a slap in the face to me. It was a slap in the face because, as deep as people want to go into it, it was black-on-black crime.”
“It’s different to say, ‘If we had Michael Vick or Daunte Culpepper or Steve McNair or Byron Leftwich,” McNabb said of four black starting quarterbacks. “But to go straight to Brett Favre, that kind of just slapped me in the face like, ‘Wow ...”’
I am not going to sit here and bash McNabb’s comments, because I feel he is a good guy, and his remarks were said in frustration, but his points can surely be debated. First off, comparing Terrell Owens to Joe Jurevicius is not the same as comparing McNabb to Favre. Sorry Donovan, Jurevicius is just plain not better than Owens, even though in T.O’s mind Favre might be better than McNabb. The QB statement made by T.O. is debatable, while the WR comparison by McNabb is not. Feel free to insert your own ‘McNabb throws to Jurevicius, TOUCHDOWN’ joke here. Secondly, if T.O. said he would rather have had either Vick, Culpepper, McNair, Leftwich instead of you, that wouldn’t make any sense whatsoever, because those players aren’t better than you Donovan, so relax.
Bottom line, I know Donovan that you’re just sick of all the criticism you’ve had to endure this past season, and I feel for you. T.O. was wrong for throwing you under the bus like that, but he won’t be around next year to pick on you. Hope that your Eagles play the Broncos in the Super Bowl and hit him when it hurts the most.

Red Sox Land OF Coco Crisp, Still Need Shortstop
Posted by Jeff Chan Categories: Editorial, MLB, Rumors, Trades,
I’ve been trying to get the pulse of Red Sox fans these days, and it is difficult to figure out. The shock of losing CF Johnny Damon has worn off and I think they will get over it because they acquired Coco Crisp, who comes younger and cheaper and seems eager to play. The problem now is that they still don’t have a shortstop. There is still time left before the season starts but right now Alex Cora is the starting SS. Boston went from having options at shortstop, to it being their most glaring weakness. In the past three years they went through Nomar Garciaparra, Orlando Cabrera, Edgar Renteria, and had Hanley Ramirez waiting in the wings, and now all four are no longer with the team. The majority of Red Sox fans were fed up with Renteria and did not want to give him another season to redeem himself. On the positive side, at least they made a steal of a trade acquiring 2B Mark Loretta for back up catcher Doug Mirabelli. They have an excess of starting pitching which is never a bad thing, in Arroyo, Beckett, Clemente, Wakefield, Schilling, and David Wells. A decision also needs to be made as to who will catch games Wakefield pitches with personal catcher Mirabelli being shipped to the Padres.
It’s been reported that Yankee’s skipper, Joe Torre, has placed a phone call to Nomar Garciaparra to let him know that they are interested in him. Some insider reports have said he’d possibly play 1B. Strange? Well, not really. The only thing stopping him from joining the all-star club: Astros would like him in the OF and Indians would like him at 1B/OF. Even the Blue Jays, Pirates, and Dodgers have expressed some sort of interest as a 3rd Baseman.
Catcher Johnny Estrada was dealt to the Arizona D-backs for two young right-handed relievers, Lance Cormier and Oscar Villarreal. Braves Manager Bobby Cox and GM John Schuerholz has kept the Braves dynasty running for longer than most people in the media and analysts have predicted. Estrada became expendable after farmhand Brian McCann played well down the stretch in place of Estrada after a head injury back in June.

Dodgers will have a new look for the 2006 season. Out is manager Jim Tracy, in is ex-Red Sox manager Grady Little. The weak NL West will be up for grabs. Closer Eric Gagne and OF JD Drew will come back from an injury-plagued 2005. Earlier this week, Dodgers signed free agent SS Rafael Furcal to a 3-year, 39 million dollar contract. Furcal looked like he was heading back to the Braves or to the Cubs, but Dodgers stepped in at the 11th hour.
