Deron Williams traded to the New Jersey Nets
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Athletes, NBA, News, Trades,
The New Jersey Nets pulled off a coup by trading for Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, and two first round draft picks. The picks are the Nets' 2011 first round pick and the Golden State Warrior's 2012 first round pick, which the Nets received in the Marcus Williams trade. After a seven-month long serenade of Carmelo Anthony and ultimately failing, the Nets acted quickly in acquiring Williams, the superstar they hope to be the face of the franchise as they move into the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The hope is that Williams' presence will help lure other superstar free agents, particularly Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic who can opt out of his contract after the 2011-12 season. The Nets hope that Williams is only the first step in many to come.

Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Athletes, Editorial, NBA, News, Trades,
The 'Melo Drama is now over as Carmelo Anthony was traded to the New York Knicks in a blockbuster deal that sees him joining forces with Amar'e Stoudemire to hopefully change the landscape of the Eastern Conference. But, will it? The full deal has Anthony, who was scheduled to be a free agent in the offseason, Chauncey Billups, Renaldo Balkman, Anthony Carter, and Shelden Williams going to the Knicks and Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Timofey Mozgov, a 2014 first round picks, additional picks (second rounders), and cash going to the Nuggets. In addition, the Knicks will send Eddy Curry, Anthony Randolph, and cash to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Corey Brewer, who was reported earlier to go to the Nuggets, so this still needs to be substantiated.

Toronto Maple Leafs swap Versteeg with Flyers for draft picks
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL, Trades,
The Toronto Maple Leafs fire sale continued on Tuesday when GM Brian Burke dealt forward Kris Versteeg to the Flyers for their first-round and third-round picks in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. The Leafs have also made two separate deals with Anaheim in the last two weeks with the Leafs picking up Joffrey Lupul, Jake Gardiner, a fourth-round pick in 2013 and Aaron Voros, only having to give up Francois Beauchemin and a seventh-rounder in 2011. These deals all seem to imply that Burke is silently admitting his rebuilding plan isn’t working out, so he’s making the move to Plan B.

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL, Trades,
The official beginning of the end for the Senators began on Thursday when the team sent forward Mike Fisher to Nashville in exchange for their first round pick in 2011 and third-rounder in 2012 – second if the Predators win two or more playoff rounds. Despite Fisher being a fan favorite and staple of Senators hockey for the past decade, it signals a changing of the culture in Canada’s capital and serves as notice that nobody on the Senators roster is untradeable leading up the NHL trade deadline.

The Flip: Mike Napoli returns to the AL West
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB, Trades,
For the second time since Friday, Mike Napoli has been traded. Hopefully he hasn’t unpacked after being sent from Los Angeles to Toronto, as he is now heading back to the AL West. The Blue Jays and Rangers have completed a deal, sending the four-day old Blue Jay Napoli to Texas for reliever Frank Francisco and a little less than a million bucks. It’s just another player flipping deals that already seem to be common with Toronto’s new GM Alex Anthopoulos over his first year in the job.

Vernon Wells, along with the four years and $86 million remaining on his contract, have been traded to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Mike Napoli and Juan RIvera were traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Wells. The downside for Angels fans who have made their voices heard is the money owed Wells, who had a bounceback 2010, but had three previous seasons of subpar performances. The trade allows the Blue Jays to have some financial flexibility moving forward.

New Jersey Nets owner Mikhail Prokohorov calls off Carmelo Anthony deal
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Athletes, Front Office, NBA, News, Trades,
It was bordering on the ridiculous, but finally, New Jersey Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov put an end to the Carmelo Anthony trade madness. During a meeting with the media, Prokhorov announced that he called off the potential trade between the Nets and Denver Nuggets because the cost for Melo was too expensive and he didn't like the way the trade was being played out in public.
The Nuggets were looking for multiple draft picks, as well as multiple players. However, there were a few reported instances when parameters for a trade were agreed upon, the Nuggets asked for more. It must have been tiring for Nets GM Billy King, but finally, his boss said to forget about it. There must have been a ton of relief by King, who was being looked at as weak and nowhere near former Nets GM Rod Thorn. So, no Melo, but at least there's solid potential for the future for the team.

Carmelo Anthony trade to the New Jersey Nets imminent?
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Athletes, NBA, Trades,
The Carmelo Anthony trade rumors have been persistent for months with the New Jersey Nets being the most connected team to Melo. The Denver Nuggets and Nets have recruited other teams previously, which didn't work, although this time, a deal that happens with the Detroit Pistons might make a trade work. If it does, the current trade proposal would be the largest in NBA history. However, will all of the particulars work out? If you're the Nets, do you really want to make this trade, which basically deals away any youth and future (aside from Anthony) from the franchise? Talks are still ongoing, but things seem imminent. Get ready to buy a Nets jersey with the number 15.
