Pittsburgth Steelers defeat Baltimore Ravens to move on to AFC championship

In what was being hyped up as a game that would be equivalent to a boxing match, as well as possible a lower scoring game, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens didn't disappoint in that it was a hard-fought game. However, no one saw the scoring that would happen with the Steelers beating the Ravens 31-24. The Ravens actually went into the half with a 21-7 lead, but the home team Steelers came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Ravens 24-3. Ben Roethlisberger threw for two touchdowns while Rashard Mendenhall ran for a couple of scores. Next up is the AFC championship for Pittsburgh.

Seattle Seahawks pull an upset beating the New Orleans Saints

Yes, the Seattle Seahawks were the home team, but with a 7-9 record, they weren't the favorites to win this match up versus the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints. However, the Seahawks did win, pulling an unexpected feat, even pulling a double-digit lead (34-20 after three-quarters) before Drew Brees worked his magic and got the score to 34-30 with about nine minutes left in the game. Ten unanswered points and Brees looking good, the Seahawks needed to stop the bleeding and that's when running back Marshawn Lynch took over, evading tacklers, and getting into the endzone, solidifying the upset.

New York Jets beat Indianapolis Colts 17-16 on last second field goal

In what was a grudge match between the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts, the hype before the game was certainly warranted as the contest was decided as the clock wound down. The Jets were able to pull out a win, exacting revenge for last season's AFC Championship loss. With the Jets up 14-13, Peyton Manning was able to lead the Colts down the field to set up an Adam Vinatieri field-goal to take a 16-14 lead with 0:53 seconds left on the clock. It looked all, but over. However, Antonio Cromartie took the ensuing kick-off for 47 yards, giving the Jets excellent field-position. It paid off, along with a Mark Sanchez to Braylon Edwards 18-yard completion to get the ball to the Colts' 14-yard line. Then with clock ticking off the clock, Jets kicker Nick Folk hit the game-winning 32-yard field goal to give the Jets a 17-16 victory. A Rex Ryan-led team finally beat Peyton Manning and the Colts. Hallelujah. The Jets move on to face the New England Patriots.

NFC Wild Card Weekend Preview - Saints, Seahawks, Packers, Eagles

The NFC Wild Card weekend kicks off with the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks mixing it up in the Great Northwest on Saturday, January 8th at 4:30PM ET. There has been much ballyhoo about the Seahawks making it into the postseason as NFC West division champions with a losing record (7-9), the first time that's happened in the NFL's history. Feel bad if you're a Tampa Bay Buccaneers or New York Giants fan, both of whom finished with 10-6 records, but because of the current playoff system will be watching instead of playing.

Giants open commanding 2-0 lead in World Series

Somebody should tell C.J. Wilson and Matt Cain that they’re not aces in this World Series. At least not yet. After both Cliff Lee and Tim Lincecum failed to deliver the goods in Game 1, Wilson and Cain combined to throw 13 2/3 innings with seven hits and two earned runs. Both Lee and Lincecum each allowed more hits and earned runs. The 9-0 final score in Game 2 is no indication of how the starting pitching fared; at least not in Wilson’s case.

MLB to possibly expand playoffs in 2012

The next chapter in the never-ending talk about baseball playoff expansion broke headlines on Tuesday. On the eve of the 106th World Series, MLB announced that they are seriously considering adding more wild card teams and making the divisional series’ a best-of-seven affair. These changes won’t take effect until the 2012 playoffs, but it’s interesting to hear that MLB and the Players’ Union are both open to the idea of making another significant change to baseball since the 1994 season.

San Francisco Giants win series, look to break history

Talk about Giant killers. The San Francisco Giants made just about every unconventional move you could think of, and it seemed like each decision paid off. They’ll be heading to their first World Series since 1954 to face the Rangers who will be going to their first World Series ever, and without any official announcements, it’s probably safe to assume that two of the game’s best pitchers, Cliff Lee and Tim Lincecum, will be throwing first pitches for their respective teams.
