The Miami Heat need only one more victory to slay the New Jersey Swamp DragonsI’m not a New Jersey Nets fan, but I’m disappointed the Nets couldn’t defend their home-court.  The Miami Heat won the two road games at the Continental Airlines Arena and can finish the Nets off at home in Miami tomorrow night. The poor New Jersey Swamp Dragons couldn’t repeat their regular season success versus the Heat.  If the Nets aren’t able to hold on, it will be doubly disappointing for the Garden State sports fans because the New Jersey Devils were eliminated out of the playoffs as well.  The only solace I can take out of this is that the game sent Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter crying home back to his 40/40 club.  I would like to root for Dwayne Wade but, there are too many players that aren’t likable on the Heat roster including: Jason Williams, (the older and not wiser) Gary Payton, and Scott Skiles abuser- Antoine Walker.  I know coach Pat Riley just lost his mom recently but he needs to get picked on as well.  The fake brown hair dye above his grey sideburns has to go.  It just makes him look even sleazier than a guy who would fire his coach just so he can take the team to the NBA Finals himself and take all the credit.

Rasheed Wallace trying to pump his team up by guaranteeing a game 4 victoryRasheed Wallace must drive Detroit Piston fans crazy.  After a no-show performance in Game 3, Rasheed Wallace has guaranteed a game four victory.  Rasheed states that Game 4 will be the last game in Quicken Loans Arena (Man, I hate the name of this venue) this season by winning tomorrow night and closing out the series in Game 5 in Detroit.  Bold words by a guy who scored only 11 points and shot 3-11 on Saturday afternoon.  Not only did he shoot badly, but he was letting Anderson Varejao get in his head.  Anderson Varejao!  Varejao is a high energy bench player like Eduardo Najera or a Jerome “Junk Yard Dog” Williams; he shouldn’t be getting the better of an all-star caliber player like Rasheed Wallace.  Towards the end of the game, Detroit was still in the game, and you could see Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton as the only players that were willing to take a shot towards the end of the game.  Hamilton was running around the court trying to get free, like he was on his last bar on Boost Mobile power, not receiving any picks along the baseline.  Not only that, Rasheed was just standing in the way, not setting a pick for Billups or posting up.  I could imagine Billups going nuts in his head during the fourth quarter, I mean, he’s not going to pass to Ben Wallace for offense, and Tayshaun Prince can’t create for himself unless it’s on a fast break.  Tonight it’s put up or shut up time for Rasheed Wallace.

The late surge with Ron Artest and playoff series couldn't save Rick Adelman's jobAfter being ousted from the playoffs by the San Antonio Spurs, the Kings have decided not to renew Rick Adelman’s contract.  The owners of the Sacramento Kings, the Maloof brothers have been unhappy with Adelman for the last couple of years, for not bringing home a championship.  Adelman was hired prior to the 1998-99 season, and lead the Kings resurgence to respectability and to a playoff contender.  The moves including trading for Chris Webber, Mike Bibby, the signing of Vlade Divac and drafting Peja Stojakovic turned the Kings into a championship threat.  Adelman also had a successful stint as the head coach for the Portland Trailblazers, including two trips to the NBA finals during the Clyde Drexler, Terry Porter era.  Adelman shouldn’t have much trouble finding a new head coaching position in the future.  The Kings have been speculated to be interested in former NBA head coach Don Nelson.

Ben Wallace to win the Defensive Player of the year award for the fourth timeSo this is how the sports writers and broadcasters make up for not giving Chauncey Billups the MVP award.  Ben Wallace wins the award for the fourth time in five years, which shows how dominate and consistent Ben Wallace has been.  Wallace learned to play well because his older brothers never passed him the ball and had to steal and block shots to get any of the glory.  So if you want to train your kids to be defensive hounds when they grow older, just torture them by never giving them the ball or the opportunity to shoot.  I kind of noticed that Wallace looked pretty bummed despite the fact that he just won the award, the Pistons have been on a roll all season, and they look like they are going to crush the Cleveland Cavaliers this series as well.  Keep in mind that Wallace has been unhappy with the touches he has been getting from coach Flip Saunders; when Larry Brown was coach, he used to appease the big man with a couple of plays designed for him in the early minutes of each game.  Wallace is a free agent after the season, it will be an interesting summer to see if Wallace feels he has been slighted for his great play the last few years and signs elsewhere.

I feel for ya Kobe, better luck next year I felt Kobe Bryant was in need of aid and support these days, after getting knocked out of the Playoffs by the Phoenix Suns.  No matter what he does, or how he plays Kobe Bryant will always be criticized and ridiculed.  All the talk now is how Kobe didn’t have a good second half in Game 7 which led to the Laker demise for this season and that a Michael Jordan led team would never play like that.  Why can’t fans just enjoy watching guys like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James for who they are right now, and stop making comparisons to Michael Jordan?  Why do fans have to compare every remotely decent-athletic two guard to come out of college the next Michael Jordan?  Everyone is their own player in their own circumstances of their careers.  Kobe Bryant never had the opportunity to lead a team in his career until now, because the Lakers always had Shaquille O’Neal as their main weapon.  I don’t understand the criticism he has to endure or where the venom comes from.  Last time I checked the Lakers were the inferior team and were the seventh seed, while Phoenix is the number two seed.  So what the Kobe haters are saying is that it’s Kobe’s fault the Lakers lost because Kwame Brown turned back into the same old lottery disappointment, that Smush Parker couldn’t keep Steve Nash and Leandro Barbosa out of the paint?  Yeah Jordan never lost a 3-1 series lead, but I don’t see Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant or Dennis Rodman wearing a Lakers uniform either.

Steve The two teams that had 60+ wins in the regular season did not disappoint in Game One of their first Western Conference Semi-final match-up.  The Spurs held serve on their home court 87-85 earlier today.  Dallas had a chance to tie or win with a three in the closing seconds, but Jerry Stackhouse shot an air ball as he was clamped down by Manu Ginobili.  Not only was this game entertaining on a basketball level, but what also made this game great to watch was the mini-verbal war in the broadcast booth.  Long-time sports announcers Steve “Snapper” Jones and Bill Walton were going at each other.  Walton couldn’t believe Ginobili was not going to the free-throw line after a missed lay-up attempt, Jones quipped back by saying, you have to get fouled to go to the line.  Finally, another announcer was calling Walton out on his sometimes-asinine comments.

LeBron James is Focused Steve Nash Driving Understand the things I’m about to reveal about myself.  I’m short.  I used to play the point for every organized league I’ve ever participated in.  And I haven’t loved a Canadian since Alanis Morissette was talking about doing some such in a theater.  But Steve Nash as this season’s NBA MVP?  Really?

I will DEFINITELY say that last season’s MVP Award was well-earned and well-deserved by Nash.  He basically took a team, however talented, and just ran with it - literally and figuratively. In the 2003-2004, the Phoenix Suns finished 29-53.  They added Steve Nash during that offseason and in the 2004-2005 season, Nash was a main factor in turning the team around to have the best record (62-20) in the NBA.  And he also led the league in assists.  Indubitable MVP credentials.

But, this season?  I’m sorry, but I have to go with LeBron James on this one.

DescriptionOne word…  Wow.

Damon Jones, he of very limited minutes during this outstanding series versus the Washington Wizards, came in for the first time in tonight’s Game Six for the Cleveland Cavaliers with 14 seconds remaining in the game.  At first a dubious choice to bring in since he was cold off the bench, it actually made sense considering Jones’ ability to shoot from the outside.  Still, one would be justified to question Jones’ participation in a game that found the Cavaliers down 113-112 and, in all likelihood, with only one chance to score.

In Game One, Jones played three minutes without a shot attempt.  In Game Two, he played six minutes, again, without attempting a shot.  In Game Three, Jones hit his lone shot - a three point field goal - in seven minutes of play.  In Game Four, he played five minutes, missing his only shot attempt.  In Game Five, Jones played less than a minute and statistically, registered a zero in all categories.

So, what does Jones do in Game Six - as critical a game as you can have aside from a series deciding Game Seven?  A chance to be a savior of sorts for a whole city that has not seen its basketball team advance in a playoff series since 1993?

Jones comes in cold and hits a jumper from the corner to put the Cavs up by one, 114-113, with four seconds left to play.  It was a shot that would be the last one in a very dramatic, nail-biting series.  From Damon Jones.  Not LeBron James.  Not Gilbert Arenas.

Damon Jones… Basketball Jesus.

Chris Paul this season was the only unanimous selection for the NBA All-Rookie Team.  The selections are made by 29 out of 30 NBA head coaches.  A player is not eligible to be voted by their own coach.  The first team includes PG Deron Williams, Forwards Charlie Villanueva, Channing Frye and center Andrew Bogut.  The second team included Danny Granger, Marvin Williams, Luther Head, Raymond Felton, and Ryan Gomes.  Number one overall pick, Andrew Bogut had 26 of 29 first team votes and Charlie Villanueva had 27 of 29 first team votes.  The Raptors selecting Villanueva was heavily criticized, but has panned out quite nicely.

Last week, we got to 35 comments… this week, let’s get to 50.  That’s our goal here people.  Start a comment yourself or respond to one… just play nice.

So, what can we all talk about?

How about Barry Bonds taking a BP ball off his head?  Anyone catch this performance by Bonds?  The histrionics equaled that of a dying character in a high school play!!!  It was almost goofy.  I mean, let’s be real, you know that didn’t hurt Bonds, the owner of a cast-iron forehead.  I swear for a brief moment it looked like Bonds didn’t notice he got hit, but then remembered he had to make belive he was human and just went down.  The ultimate would have been if Wiliam Shatner could have done a voiceover making belive he was Bonds:

“Ouch.  I’ve… been… hit… yes.  Help.”

What else?  How about some blatant self-promotion on my part.  Check out my latest column on SI.com and tell me how awesome I am!!!

OR how long it’s taking me to post all the NFL Draft Grades, having only finished 25% of the teams in the NFL, and tell me how much I actually stink!  But, speaking of the NFL Draft, how do you guys think the teams did?

Albert Pujols… would you pitch to him?

Am I the only one that thinks LeBron James can be BETTER than Michael Jordan?

Let’s discuss…
