The Great One could be in great trouble as the gambling ring investigation continues. So far, Gretzky is at least guilty of trying to cover things up for his wife, as he is has been heard on audio wiretaps. He was heard speaking to Rick Tocchet about how his wife, Janet Jones Gretzky could avoid being implicated. Gretzky could be subpoenaed to testify before a New Jersey grand jury because this case may have links to organized crime. So far Phoenix Coyote assistant coach, Rick Tocchet has been suspended indefinitely by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. This gambling ring is being called Operation Slap Shot and the investigation has discovered over 1,000 wagers, exceeding $1.7 million over several weeks, on professional and college sports, mostly football and basketball.

Bengie Molina Signs with Toronto Blue Jays
Posted by Jeff Chan Categories: Athletes, Front Office, MLB,
Now, I am officially impressed with the Blue Jays off-season. Catcher Bengie Molina has been a proven winner with the Angels in recent years, joins other new teammates, B.J. Ryan, A.J. Burnett, Troy Glaus, Lyle Overbay. Molina signs a one-year 5 million dollar deal. Ryan, Burnett were questionable signings considering they have not been impact players over an extended period of time, but Molina solidifies this off-season with aggressive moves to show the fans the Blue Jays mean business in the AL East.
Wearing the road white uniforms, donning the winning-streak beard, Pittsburgh were just a lock to win the Super Bowl. Now that the season has ended, Big Ben can start looking like a normal person again, instead of mountain man who should wear flannel ala lumberjack legend Paul Bunyan. Letterman shaved off Rothlisberger’s beard live yesterday night on the Late Show. The razor of choice was the Gillette Fusion, who also had the shaving rights to the Johnny Damon shaving.
Indiana Pacers forward Jonathan Bender will most likely end up retiring due to chronic knee injuries at the age of 25. Bender, who was originally drafted out of high school was projected to be a star in the making. A 7’0” player that had the skills and ability of a shooting guard with tremendous leaping ability, Bender is an athlete whose career never blossomed due to injury. He was the #5 pick in the 1999 draft by the Toronto Raptors and was traded to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Antonio Davis. Bender ended up fighting for minutes throughout his career at Indiana in a log jam at the swing positions with Jalen Rose, Ron Artest, Al Harrington, and Stephen Jackson taking up the majority of the minutes.
Super Bowl XL MVP: Hines Ward
Posted by Edwin Soto Categories: Athletes, Championship, Super Bowl, Kudos, NFL,
Hines Ward was voted the Super Bowl MVP today. Ward caught 5 receptions for 123 yards and 1 TD. The most spectacular of these plays had to be the 43 yard touchdown pass thrown by Randall El. Mr. Ward, from all of us at EndScore, congratulations on your trophies.
In a somewhat puzzling move by Knicks President Isiah Thomas, the Knicks will receive Jalen Rose and a first round draft pick (via Denver) for Antonio Davis, whose contract will expire following this season. Rose was not a favorite of coach Larry Brown, Brown coached Rose during Brown’s last season in Indiana. Rose’s career did not really blossom until Larry Bird became coach, when Rose finally decided to let go of the idea of being a point guard and just concentrated on scoring. The initial reaction of this move does not look to make much sense for the New York Knicks, by acquiring yet another high priced salary player. Hopefully this leads to another deal or at least an explanation.
Edgerrin James, star running back for Indianapolis Colts, may end up wearing another uniform next year. This past off-season he signed a 1-year franchise deal, but was unable to secure a long term extension. It looks like the Colts are ready to move on, save some money and draft a new running back and in the meantime go with Dominic Rhodes as the feature back.
Rhodes definitely is a serviceable back as he rushed for over 1100 yards his rookie year in 2001, substituting for James while out with an injury. The problem is the Colts went 6-10 that season, and that had been the only season the Colts missed the playoffs during this recent Manning/James/Harrison era. Obviously, James has been paramount to the Colts success. Since 1999, the Colts are 77-35—70-26 when he plays, 7-9 when he doesn’t, according to the Star. Look at the bright side the Green Bay Packers won it all while not having a dominant running game, led by Edgar Bennett with 899 yards in the 1996 season.
Jerome Bettis Gets the Key to the City, Like Saddam

Bettis gets the key to Detroit. He joins the ranks of
my hero
South Park villain, Saddam Hussain - former Iraqi dictator. Back in 1980, Detroit gave the ex-president of Iraq a key to commemorate his kindness and cooperation with the West. Rev. Jacob Yasso, who ran Chaldean Sacred Heart church in the Motor City, stated this recently when asked why they gave Saddam a key.
Bettis, Detroit’s poster child this winter, had this to say about his association with Hussain:
“I don’t know that I’ll be sharing that with Saddam. I think they canceled his key. They changed the locks on that one.”
Doug Flutie’s Drop Kicked Ball Has A Greedy Owner
Posted by Edwin Soto Categories: Athletes, Front Office, Kudos, NFL,
For years, Doug Flutie has been known most for his “Hail Flutie” play back in his Boston College days. That will surely be one of the most talked about plays for many generations. The 1984 Heisman Trophy winner now has something else to be remembered by.
Earlier this season, in a meaningless game versus the Miami Dolphins, Flutie executed the first drop kicked extra point since 1941. There wasn’t a soul in the stadium - aside from the Patriots - that expected that play. Hence, the net to catch extra points and field goals wasn’t set up. A lucky fan made off with a heck of a souvenir - one for the record books. Flutie deserves to have this token of history back and the guy deserves to be compensated. What does he want?
1. Payment of ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND ($100,000.00) DOLLARS [lawyer’s capitals] on delivery of the football.
2. A guarantee of eight (8) season tickets for 25 years in the end zone (preferably sections 142 or 143).
a. The season tickets will be paid for annually by my client at the then going price for season tickets. The Patriots would not be expected to pay for the tickets.
3. Delivery by the Patriots to my client sometime in September, 2006, of a Tom Brady Patriots’ football jersey signed by all the team members as of the beginning of the next football season.
You would have to be an idiot to request that of any organization. The Pats have declined the “offer.” Now this moron holds a piece of history that no one will care about in a few years. Heck, we already have it on film. That’s enough for me. Patriots should release a statement of their own: “Shove it.”
Michelle Wie is teeing up for an 8th straight time against the men. This time it will be in the Asian Tour’s SK Telecom Open in May. The tourney will be held in South Korea, where Wie’s parents are from. Her grandfather Wie Sang-kyu still resides in Jangheung, a South Korean city where a locals used to pass the hat to support his granddaughter. No need for that now, since Wie has plenty of sponsors. Her failures on the Men’s tournaments have been well documented. She failed to make the cut in all seven so far. Who cares? I finally have a reason to tune in if she does qualify.
