Soriano is off to play second base in the World Baseball Classic and does not want to come back to play the outfield. When the World Baseball Classic ends in three weeks, Soriano is hoping the Washington Nationals have accommodated for him, or else. Well what exactly is “what else”? Whose to say for sure, does it mean, trade 2B Jose Vidro? Move Vidro to the outfield? Or trade Soriano to another team? Well Nationals General Manager Jim Bowden sure doesn’t have the answer. Bowden states: “We’ve been pretty clear about being unclear,”. Wow, kudos to you Bowden, you sound almost as convincing as Isiah Thomas, promising Knick fans that Marbury/Francis will work itself out just as well as Isiah Thomas/ Joe Dumars or Walt Fraizer/Earl Munroe.

Life just isn’t fair sometimes. Why should a player like Tim Thomas, who refused to play all year for the Chicago Bulls, gets to keep his entire ‘05-‘06 salary which is 13.9 million dollars, clear waivers then gets to sign with the Phoenix Suns for even more money? Not only does he get to play for a good team, but he is getting paid extra for it. Tim Thomas better at least bring some more funny sound bites like the “fugazy” comment to the table. Every team Thomas has played for has been left with a sour taste in their mouth - all the way back to his college days in Villanova, where Wildcat fans were disappointed to see him leave after just one year of college ball.
One of the few players on next year’s Marlins team that baseball fans will know, Miguel Cabrera signs for a measley $472,000 yearly salary. That is peanuts compared to the some of the other contracts in the major leagues. The New York Yankees alone had a median salary of $5,833,334. Cabrera must be itching for the day he becomes eligible for arbitration. Cabrera has been so good in his first three years in the big leagues, he has been statistically compared to Hall of Famer, Hank Aaron at the same stages of their careers.

The Minnesota Viking Love-Boat scandal that just won’t go away has reared it’s ugly head again. Culpepper’s lawyers are stating that the prosecutor is racially discriminating against Culpepper by just going after Culpepper and his teammate Moe Williams, but not against the boat captain or the club manager who provided the girls as entertainment, who are both white. Poor Dante, first Randy Moss yells at him on the sidelines, then he gets injured last season, and now this. We want to see Culpepper smiling again so he can do the basketball referee “traveling call” dance after throwing for a touchdown.

Telfair will serve a two game suspension for violating the leagues firearms policy. The league prohibits players from carrying a firearm while traveling on team or league business. (I can’t believe there has to be a rule like this by the way, it’s called common sense.) Telfair admitted to mistakenly taking his girlfriends bag which had a loaded gun inside last week in Boston. Unfortunately the team was not headed to Philadelphia, this way Telfair could have claimed he brought the gun in exchange for 76er’s tickets.
With Portland trading Ruben Patterson, Telfair and Zach Randolph are the last of the “Jail Blazers” - but management seems to ready to build the team around these guys. The next Portland player I predict to be the next cool thug is back-up center Ha Seung-Jin. Too bad they couldn’t swing a deal for Darko Milicic, because Rasheed Wallace has been quoted saying: “I’m telling you, Darko is a Serbian gangster.” Straight up, fool.
Telfair, who is Stephon Marbury’s cousin, has some other bone-headed relatives; Hassan Gonsalves and Tasheem Ward were involved in the Isiah Thomas sexual harassment scandal, where Gonslaves and Ward were hired and later had to be fired by MSG even though they were “completely unqualified”.

The Eagles, who desperately need to fill the production that Terrell Owens left behind, might look to bring in Pittsburgh Steeler standout WR/ PR Antwaan Randle-El. The Eagles look to make as splash as the rest of the NFC East has caught up to them talent wise after a long run as the elite team in their division. They are also targeting DE John Abraham, of the New York Jets, who is an excellent pass rusher. Abraham who plays outstandingly when he is on the field is questioned at times for not playing through injuries.
Reggie Wayne signed a six-year contract extension that is worth approximately 40 million. The Colts still can use their franchise tag to use on Edgerrin James, but will most likely part ways. Wayne has thrived as the second receiver in the Colts attack, perhaps realizes this is the best situation for him, rather than going to a weaker team where he can be focused on by the opposing defense.
The Colts will invest a day one draft pick on a running back, and will probably have their eye on Jamal Lewis, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens who is now a free agent. The Ravens have confidence in Lewis’ replacement Chester Taylor. DeShaun Foster and reigning MVP Shaun Alexander are also on the market. Even with all these big name running backs entering free agency, unfortunately there really isn’t much a market for them, unless they consider signing with a terrible team. The teams in need of a running back are the Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals, and San Fransisco 49ers. The only enticing places to play are perhaps for the Minnesota Vikings, or Carolina Panthers, if they decide to upgrade over Deshaun Foster.
Some suggest calling this style of play the North Carolina two-guard disease. It only applied to Michael Jordan and Vince Carter, and it is not as common as Marbury-itis, but at least these guys had some valid excuses. Jordan took some major punishment going to the rack earlier in his career, especially from the Pistons. Those guys purposely funneled him into the hole just to foul the guy. Jordan eventually developed an awesome fade-away shot and the rest is history. Carter had some nagging injuries that made him leery to go to the basket, and admitted he wasn’t playing 100% for the Toronto Raptors. Now he is rejuvenated in New Jersey back to making fantastic dunks and all kinds of circus shots.
This leads me to this question. What happened to Lebron James? Sure he has great stats and the Cavs are doing ok, but wow, he sure is jacking up a lot of outside shots and now isn’t really the passing threat he used to be. James has only been in the league for 2+ seasons, don’t tell me he is already losing some steam in taking it to the hole. I’m sure James is going to turn out just fine. Oh Lebron, by the way, what was up with your Diamond Dallas Page hand signal you were giving out at the all-star game about?
Former Carolina Panther Wide-Receiver Rae Carruth is well-known for being jailed for conspiring to having his pregnant girlfriend killed. Carruth and other famous criminals such as Scott Peterson were the inspiration for the A&E program called Fatal Fathers. Apparently this program premiered in August of 2004, but I just caught it last night on television for the first time. Too bad O.J. Simpson didn’t get convicted as well, they would have made for an unstoppable prison football team.

Too many potential jokes: Former NBA All-star, and alcohol abuser Vin Baker looks to resurrect his career with the Los Angeles Clippers. With backup big man Chris Wilcox being shipped to the Seattle SuperSonics, Baker is being reunited with former coach Mike Dunleavy. Baker and Dunleavy were together during their stint with the Milwaukee Bucks. Good luck Vin, don’t fall off the wagon!
