Paul Konerko and Joe Crede hit grand slams en route to an 11-0 rout over the struggling Detroit Tigers. Also helping the White Sox to victory were Jermaine Dye and Jim Thome, who knocked in runs.

“Where we’re at makes sense because that’s the way we’ve played,” Tigers manager Jim Leyland said after the game. “It’s not surprising that we’re 2-10. We’ve been shut out four times. ... I didn’t think we’d get shut out four times all year, to be honest with you.”

The Tigers’ starting pitcher, Kenny Rogers, lasted just 4 innings, giving up 7 hits and 7 earned runs. The game’s mop-up man, Zach Miner, lasted 2 innings giving up 3 hits and 4 earned runs.

“We’re not a very good team right now,” Rogers said. “We’re as bad a team as there is right now in every facet, myself as much as anyone.”

Perhaps even more startling than the pitching was the offense, or lackthereof. The Tigers could only muster 6 total hits, leaving 13 runners on base. White Sox pitcher Javier Vazquez shut down the Tigers through 7 innings, striking out 9.

“We’re just in a funk,” Leyland said. “Can I get them out of the funk? No, I don’t think so. They have to get themselves out of it.”
