True Predictions:  So Much Good & Bad, Titans, and Patriots vs. Saints on MNF

DescriptionWeek Eleven proved profitable for me as I went 5-1 and run the season record to 32-20. Two upsets: Oakland Raiders over the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs over the Pittsburgh Steelers weren’t even selected to predict since I figured the also-rans would have no shot. But I did have the feeling that the one-win wonders, the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions, would deliver a close contest. A last second pass interference call in the end zone set up the Detroit victory. I got the expected wins by the Green Bay Packers, New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts and San Diego Chargers. My lone loss was due to Vince Young leading the Tennessee Titans to their fourth straight victory in a hard-fought match-up with the Houston Texans. The Texans needed to show they could be contenders (against a 3-6 team), but it just was not to be.

The Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4) have now won three straight (but not against stellar competition). Nevertheless, they are deep in wild-card contention.  They meet the San Francisco 49ers (4-6) in the Bay Area this weekend. The Niners still have an outside shot at a wild-card spot, but Jacksonville needs to keep things humming and dispose of a foe whose record is below .500. Go with the Jaguars.

Pittsburgh is at the Baltimore Ravens. Both lost last weekend. The Steelers (6-4) needs this one badly. So does Baltimore (5-5), but Pittsburgh is the team with higher expectations. QB Ben Roethlisberger has been cleared to go after suffering a concussion against the Chiefs. The pick is Pittsburgh.

If Houston would have beaten the Titans on Monday their game this Sunday against the Colts would have shaped up as a better match-up – even though the Colts are undefeated.  Now it’s a 10-0 team vs. a 5-5 team. Take Indy.

Hot-hot Tennessee hosts the Arizona Cardinals (7-3) this weekend. In Vince Young we trust? The Cardinals need to prove they’re real and take this game, but it’s going to be “Hail, Hail, VY” and five straight for the Titans.

On Monday night the New England Patriots travel to face the New Orleans Saints. I haven’t mentioned the undefeated Saints a lot this season so it’s good that they get a showcase on MNF. Even though they’ve only beaten so-so teams this year there’s no reason to believe they won’t take to the spotlight and handle the Patriots easily. Let’s hope we get that Saints-Minnesota Vikings match-up for the NFC title. How’s Brett Favre holding up?

GOOD: Donovan McNabb offering a pick-me-up to Jay Cutler following the Philadelphia Eagles victory over the Chicago Bears. Cutler would do well by heeding the advice. BAD: Okay, I know it’s the holiday season, but that electronics retailer commercial that uses carolers to hawk gift ideas is really dumb and annoying. Bah humbug! GOOD:  The beer commercial in which the wife uses a staple gun to attach the boutonniere to her husband’s lapel. The end-joke is even better. Happy Thanksgiving!
